2016 RS Venture TF

Congrats on the new purchase. I've got a 2013 that has about 1000 miles on it now. First thing I noticed (after the dream of EPS) was the suspension was a lot stiffer than my '06 RS Venture. I now have everything loosened as soft as realistically possible, and it could still stand a little more "break in" IMO (I'm 180 lbs and wife is 100 lbs dry).
I, too, made my own rear "rack", consisting of 1/2" plywood coated with epoxy and painted. It's designed to strap a dry bag or duffel bag down. Sorry no pics.

You're going to find that your new Yamaha rides like a P.O.S. in the corners. It'll feel like it wants to fall over, because Yamaha sets up their suspensions, on the long tracks, as if the driver is going to weigh 600lbs!
Get the sled off the ground. The front shock of the rear suspension, the one that's closest to the front axle, needs adjustment. The coil over spring is set way to hard. Loosen off the adjusting nuts, back these nuts off until they are ready to fall off the shock, that's right, as loose as possible, then tighten up those nuts again. The coil over spring may even be loose right now, but won't be once it's on the trails. You're new sled will now ride like a snowmobile, around corners, with lots less tippy feel to it, rather than like a P.O.S. that Yamaha sends out to everyone.

Hey Cliffy, your not to far away, im in London area. Done lots of riding up that area and its a great area to explore. I have a 2014 Venture GT and love it. comfort, wind protection and horsepower are all i could ask for. Do u happen to know what carbides that gave you? I changed mine out and it handles better then it did. still tuning suspension. Its a Heavy sled but i think you will love it!

Not sure which ones they installed from the factory
But there's two on each ski

lots more coming...Just don't sit like me and hit the refresh button on the OFSC web site map. :hide: You picked a good year at least..Last year the grass was still growing at this time....

Hey Cliffy thats the exact same sled we bought new last year . Here in NB we didn't have a good winter of snow last year so we only managed to put on 960 km . So for this winter its got a brand new belt ( provided free by my dealer ) and we put the break in belt as a spare . Also has synthetic oil . Hoping for the first ride next week . Prior to buying this sled we did a lot of winter ATV ing on groomed trails and usually put on 3000 + km on the ATV but last year we drove it also less that 1000 km .

On the sled itself we love it . Takes a little getting used to and we use the Touring mode as the other 2 one is too fast and the other is too slow lol .

This fall i was also looking for a rear rack to mainly carry a spare gas tank and realized that Yamaha no longer sell these but i went to my dealer and found one on a sled on display and asked if i could buy it and they said sure . $ 219 plus tax . I like having that little 10 l of gas just in case . Our lodges and stuff we go to are pretty isolated and they run out of gas frequently .

I didn't have to do any adjustments to my sled as the dealer already looked after all that going by where we ride and our ages and sizes etc .

Anyways have fun and stay safe .

Congrats on your sled. I have a 2013 Venture TF with 4500 miles on it. I ride alone almost all the time. The suspension is too stiff for one person no matter what you do. I ordered softer torsion springs for the rear after doing all the adjustments mentioned on this site. Made a big difference. Also had rear suspension shocks rebuilt and re-valved softer which made a huge difference. I also go off trail some and front end seemed to plow a lot. I put Simmons Gen II skis on it (10" wide). The front end floats now and handling is much better. Would probably be a bear to turn without the power steering. I am trying to find out if I can put a 1,75 lug track on it for better off trail performance, mostly breaking trail on logging roads. I dont want to get it stuck !!

Rangerbob . So you like the 10 in wide skis on your venture . I was thinking of getting a set of wide skis to go on my woodlot to cut some firewood . My main concern would be getting stuck in the woods . Is it a big job to swap skis ?

No it is not a big job to change the skis. They are not cheap but well worth the money. If I got into 2 ft of powder with the stock skis the snow would come up over the bumper and hood. There is a lot of weight on the front end. The 10" Simmons keep the front end floating. I also had them on a 2010 Skidoo Expedition 1200 that was about the same weight as the Yamaha, and they worked well on that also.

Well had her out for a 50 km ride on the trails today
Feels like a lot of pep even with 2 people

Nice...get on them trails before they melt...looks good. i was out yesterday and put on several hundred clicks as well . i ride alone most of the time and find if you lean into the corners a bit and work the sled it handles very well. There is a ton of torque for the size of it...
