Not sure how tall you are but i am 6'1" and kind of long armed. The original owner of my Attak had the 2" riser and 2" of foam added to the seat top at an automobile upholstery shop. It really feels better to me and I really notice the difference when I swap back and forth to my friends Attak. It seems like it is even easier to transition to a standing position when I need to. The only bad thing is I have the original low windshield on now and the wind hits me pretty good. I have the taller grandpa one for it too that it came with but it doesn't look as nice with that on. I need to get a mid ht. one for it.

This is the reason I went to Ski Doo…I loved my Vector and Apex…but…I am 6'1" and I feel like I am squatting when I ride it! They need to add 2-3" to the seat for it to be comfortable for me. This reason…the seat…is the ONLY reason I continue to ride a Ski Doo (they are a pretty good sled too).

I tried adding the foam to the seat…was not enough for me. I feel like I am sitting upright in a chair on my XP. It is great.

I road

I road the madrussians xtx for about 100 miles one day. I happened to own a 2012 Procross at the tine. There was no comparison the cat "current viper" was head and shoulders better. It was close in weight but felt like a much lighter sled. My biggest issue with the Cat was it broke every time we road and blew a belt every 400 miles.

The seating position on the apex is very old school. I feel like I'm slouching when I ride it. If they made it more rider forward and lowered the motor like it is in the vector I would like an apex. Have you ever road a vector? It feels much lighter then an apex.

Anyone who says the weight doesn't matter hasn't ridden a Viper. The Viper should have a much lighter feel compared to the Apex, My Cat did. I just can't ride a cat again and that's what the viper is. Also performance wise the viper is underwhelming. We race on anchor bay every weekend we aren't on the trail. Last weekend The Russian and I both raced a turbo viper 10 or 15 times and smoked it every time.

Again I really want to ride a Yamaha. It just hard to justify riding one when none of them co pair to what I ride now. I'm crossing my fingers that 2017 brings a new apex maybe named SRX
I am nt sure about the early xtx apes, but now in 2015 they have a much taller seat, for me I don't care for it as much, but for a taller person it may be fine, and yes I had the 13 procross to,and although the procross did handle better, its ride was not a lot better, once set up for the rider, mine is now getting much better w/1200 trouble free miles, not once have I had to look at anything trailside other than take out the wrench to adjust my front coil spring skid shock to a desired setting and my transfer rods same thing. So far other than the touring shield, this sled is all bone stock, and not even studded,my cat was boosted w/TD v-19 program, but even on stage one 210 hp it was never that fsat on snow, only able to run 112 gps down my RR bed in my town, now this ape was not broke in and already on crapy snow run 109 gps,but it get there so much quicker than the cat turbo, and sounds so much better,if all you have done for milage on an ape xtx it is not enough miles,i know I was still scratching my head trying to figure out set up,once set up for you it becomes much easier to ride hard thru the bumps and twisty stuff. Just MO...

You stated you race on a lake w/not riding,so what do you ride now and race on weekends?

I'm 6'1" and about 210lbs...and I think my 2011 xtx is perfect...my Attak was a little low...and vectors feel low to me...but not the 2011 and newer apexes

Yeah, I remember reading In Supertrax or Snowgoer that they like the Apex seating position more than the Vector because it is a little higher due to the seat being a bit firmer...however, at a dealer a few months ago, I sat on a Apex and Vector next to each other and had a friend eyeball where my knees were compared to my hips. He noted that my knees were a tad higher than my hips on both machines - appeared to be no different. That's what I cannot tolerate. It's gets so uncomfortable after awhile. Causes me to slump ! My Vector (2012) was worse than my Apex (2006) because the seat was so soft. I sunk down like in a couch after several hours of riding. When I first started riding it in the morning, and seat foam was cold, it was okay. Perhaps my weight (230 lb) is contributing to the sagginess of the seat...? Well , after riding an '09 XP for awhile, I fell in love with the seating position. Doo really has it perfect for me. I wanted to go to a Viper, though while the seat was fine, my knees were jammed against the cowling on both sides of the tank, under the handlebars (where Reverse lever is on apex) . Also, there is a bend in the plastic there, right where my knees are, making it even worse. So what choice do I have? I'm not going to spend $11k on a sled that doesn't fit me when I ride 2000+ miles every season. I have to stick with a Doo. Currently looking at a '16 Blizzard 1200. Love my Yammies, and how they are built, and what precision machines they are...but...they don't fit me!

You stated you race on a lake w/not riding,so what do you ride now and race on weekends?

In the weekends we don't go north to ride we go to a lake close to my house and race all day long.

What other things did you do to your cat, we gps'd all our sleds when I had my cat. We had two Apecs in the group. my turbo Cat was 17mph faster then tge Apexs in the same distance.

I don't know what to say...I'm your size (Give or take a few lbs)..and it suits me fine.....love it....to each their own...enjoy your new ski doo...they are a fine machine...my buddy has the 2015 gsx se..he loves it...just doesn't like me spanking him on the lake...lol

Yes the new Doo 1200 is a good one, looks better now it's in the newer chassis too. Myself I would be itching for more power though and I would have to do the performance header mod and such to match the power of the Apex.

An Apex against a 1200 Doo.....boy that's a fair race. He should expect to get spanked and if he thinks otherwise he needs to get real.

Unless you do the mods I mentioned............but that's a different can of worms.

What's with all the anger and hostility these days. I think he just said that the 1200 Doo motor should have more power than it is producing. Its just the way they designed it. It was their choice to have it that way.

Yes the apex has less CC's but it has more valves, better breathing and probably more RPM and compression. There reaches a point in any motor where you trade off power for reliability. Could the Nitro/Viper motor have more power and stay reliable, probably but until then, put in a turbo.
