-Sorry this is going to be a long post lol.

Beginning of this past winter I noticed that the small spring on my center shock was broke. I took it to the dealer and had them remove the shock and to see about getting it warrantied. Once out it was realized that the shock body was all worn down from the plastic spacer that goes between the 2 springs rubbing on the shock body. After a bunch of back and forth with Yamaha, they approved covering the shock/spring replacement. Labor was on me.

The shock was on back order till at least march. So I went ahead and got in contact with Cannondale to grab a stingray spring to throw on my beat up shock. It worked well and finally last month my new shock was in. Last week I took all of the shocks out of my dad's and my winders and sent them off to Cannondale for all around refreshes and schrader valve upgrades. My dad's center shock was all jacked up as well so I had Cannondale replace the sleeve on that one and stick on another stingray spring. Anyways, I can tell you that Cannondale (Steve) is a great guy to deal with and provides fast reliable service.

Ok. Now for my problem... I went about reinstalling all the shocks today and when I got to my new replacement from Yamaha I noticed that when I pressed the bushing in the eyelets that it seemed too short. It did not go all the way from one side to the other.
I took a look at my old shock and sure enough they have changed the size of the eye on the shock (also confirmed by a new p/n on the parts diagram), but have neglected to update the bushings or the aluminum spacers that go on the mounting shaft. Soooo how exactly am I supposed to bolt this back together if the aluminum collars are now longer than the shaft, due to the increased width of the eye on the new shock?
About the only thing I can think is to trim each aluminum spacer down whatever 1/2 the extra size is. Do you all think that the plastic bushing in the eye not going all the way to each end will be a problem?

I don't see many options with this. I am going to head to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. I'm sure it will be like talking to the wall though. Pic attached of the 2 shocks side by side.

Another fun tid bit. I noticed my oil tank is leaking AGAIN. I'm really getting tired of this yamacat junk...

the bushing will work but it would be better if it went all the way across. see if they have an up dated bushing for it or will give you another one so you can trim them down to make it a 2 peice bushing. do it all the time at work for transports.

Use a heavier center spring 120/230 I believe

If you haven't discussed this issue with Steve that's the first thing that I would do. I'm sure that he will be able to sort it out. He knows his stuff and has good contacts for parts and info.

By the way.....good for you in sending in your shocks along with your Dad's shocks to get them serviced now. With all of the Covid related issues in the supply chains who knows how long routine service will take with the lack of parts availability these days.

I've been ordering and stocking up on commonly needed replacement parts that I know I'll need to keep my sleds running this winter so I won't be caught short this winter.

New one is wider? In that case the spacers will have the be shortened. Is the bushing in that eyelet full width?

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Today with a fresh outlook lol I took another look at the shock. It looks like only the TOP eye is wider. The bottom one is the same as the old one. Amazingly the steel collar that goes in the top is actually long enough and the shock eye fits in the arm. For some reason I was thinking that the bottom shaft went through that top eye :o|. However the plastic bushing was still too short. I pounded the old bushing out of the old shock and pressed it into the extra space in the new shock and hacksawed off the excess. So I think I am good to go. Appreciate your quick reply Steve and for trying to see if you had a solution. This community is the best! Finally I can get these sleds put to bed and get the jet skis out of storage.

Another fun thing for everyone to look at: When I removed the rear shock from my sled, You have to remove the shaft below it that the rear idlers are attached to. Well when I removed that, some how the 2 spacer collars were both broke. Those are on back order till who knows when. So that will be a fall project. How do you even break those lol? (those 2 spacers in the pic were once 1 piece). No egg shaped holes. Bolts were tight. Very weird. Thanks again everyone!
