I have a 20219 Sidewinder and last week while riding the sled suddenly stopped and would not go forward thought I blew a belt! Belt was fine. Reverse worked for a bit then that stopped also. Brought it to the dealer and after they looked at it said there was no oil in the chain case and everything disintegrated. Asked If I had it serviced. Only thing done this past fall was an oil change that I did. Sled only has 600 miles. Dealer said there was no sign of a leak anywhere. I put about 100 miles this winter before this happened.
Anyone else have a similar issue?
Dealer said they had a brand new one come this year in with no oil and blew up with less than 30 miles.
Any chance the chain case oil drained when I did the oil? I did not touch the case bolts.
Would like to know where the oil went!
Don't want to have an issue again after its fixed.
Oh and of course the parts are backorderd 2-3 weeks so basically my season with this sled is over!
I asked if this is covered and dealer said will try to put through, thinks it may because of the other sled that came with no oil. Ant i

oil window on chaincase? known leak to happen there.

Dealer said no signs of any leaks if it was leaking out of the site glass you would definitely see the oil all over everything I would be willing to bet it came from the factory with out the Cain case oil. But then 600 miles is alot of miles for not having any oil at all. The sled is 3 years old already so unless you have extended warranty I think your shitz out of luck getting it covered through Yamaha however I have seen some better dealers pull it off. Sucks tho either way a hope you get it figured out and keep use posted to what happens.

I did get the extended warranty. Bought it late February 2019 so good till 2024. Sucks that this season busted!

Stock, you should have seen RED halfway up glass.
You would have seen it even without looking for it.

I'd question the dealer's pre delivery prep if yours and the other had no oil from the factory.

I've been down this road, but my sight glass had fallen into case. However, my parts were not damaged terribly bad. You will probably need shift fork pads for sure. Just put it back together and ride it!

I just did a track change on a 2020 with 1000 miles that still had warranty. Before I took it apart I noticed there was a small puddle on my shop floor. I picked up a new gasket from the local Cat dealer. I also changed the top bushing as it already had some slop. When the owner came to pick it up I explained that he could take these parts to the Yamaha dealer and plead his case for warranty consideration. He replies "oh they will just say it's my fault", and I reply "oh you know how warranty works obviously".

I have been dealing with this dealer for years, but I was surprised hear they let out a machine without thoroughly going over it first. My concern was I did something when I changed the oil. But that does not seem likely. I and definitely going to push to have this covered under warranty. My bad for not checking the oil level before each ride but with only 600 miles I did not think it would mater. lol. I have 2 20+ year old Yamaha's never had an issue.

Keep everyone posted.

Thanks!

Definitely not a sight glass issue. My model year does not have one. Talked to the service Tec yesterday. He said it was bone dry. Never had oil. I guess that says something about Yamaha. Made it 600 miles! Parts are still back ordered. So my guess this season will be a bust for the winder. Going push for an extra year on the warranty.

Update, even after after changing this gasket the owner says it still has a very slow drip. I told him just to top it up occasionally and then take it to the dealer when season is over as it has warranty. I suspect there may be a tiny crack somewhere but am not sure.

Does Yamaha ship these sleds with oil in the case, or is that done during PDI?

According to my dealer they come filled from the factory. They just had 2021 with the same issue. That one only made it 30 miles. You would think they would inspect prior to delivery. My guess is going forward they will
