2019 Winder Chain Case Blewup, no oil!

Probably got the sled built at 5 on a Friday. lol

I to have owned many Yamaha sleds over the years and pretty much found them to be set it and forget it, however my 2020 srx needs to be checked out every time I ride it. Every time I ride it I love it , every time I work on it I hate it. Damned cat dna. I can't imagine some one coming away from a side winder with a positive opinion if it is a challenge to check the chain case oil. Yamaha recommends checking your oil every ride but I can't imagine a dealer not checking your oil on the pdi. Dealer at fault 1st owner at fault second, but it does suck and I hope someone will step up to help you.

I have a. 21 cat that has a casting imperfection in it. Slow leaked and I did manage to seal it up and put 1000 miles on sled. Still not leaking. My point is if it’s a slight weep from a casting imperfection you have to be paying attention to find it. ONLY reason I found mine was I dropped the factory fluid after 180 miles and put Klotz In it. I always spray everything down with brake cleaner to clean up residuals from oil drainage. I kept seeing just a slight wet on the inner case. So I sprayed it AGAIN real good. Two days later I wiped a rag on the inner case down low. Sure enough! Looked under sled real hard and found it. This is a very small imperfection that will weep very slowly!

There is no way a sled will go 600 miles with no oil in the chaincase. 20 to 30 would be about the max. It had oil when it was new.
Correct. The sight glass fell into my chaincase on my 2018 when it was brand new. Oil leaked out and I didn't make it home. Less than 40 miles. The first thing that happens is the nylon shift fork pads melt.

There seems to be some issues around the chaincase on the pro cross not only Winders but some Vipers to, not sure why Yamaha has not addressed the problem yet or do they even think there is even a issue, is there a ratio that they must see before acting or fixing and put out a service bulletin, maybe there isn't enough owners that had this problem for them to act, or maybe they just turn a blind eye, just put it to warranty if you have any left, let the owners order the parts and fix it, that doesn't guarantee your replacement part is any better, the Winders are Yamaha's flagship snowmobile and owners are paying big for the best, no one wants these type of issues, owners want to ride with confidence, are snowmobile seasons are short enough to enjoy, no one wants to be waiting on back ordered parts.

Makes sense. The other sled at the dealership went 30 before failing. My question is, Where did the oil go? No signs of a leak anywhere. I would think even if half of the oil leaks out they would see something. Definitely going to be more diligent and check before every ride.

There have been a few reports of tiny cracks.

Oil leaked out somewhere.
No oil since new.

I read this entire post and have to say, if dealer said there was no oil in it from the get go, I’d say they have to go good for if it was warrantied when it blew.

I’m sure the dealer could tell, first look, whether or not it ever had oil in it, Right?

I thought the APEX was their flagship model

Really, I didn't know that by the way some of the guys brag them up you would think they were still making them.

Both the Apex and Vector were hard to beat on reliability, especially when compared to the Yamacat Winder.
But the Winder does so many things better as far as handling, ride and of course SPEED!

Just got to commit to checking and maintaining these race rockets, tuned or not!
