Well I did a chain case oil change today and desided to pull the cover to look things over and check chain tension. I already had a 23 tooth gear on hand but was going to wait to install it untill my friend with his RTX and I could do a little comparing with his 23 tooth vs. my 24 and an Ulmer stage 2 kit. Well once I did all the work to get it apart I fiqured if and when the snow flies I don't want to take it apart again to install the 23. To make a long story short I put it in but found you need either a 36mm wrench or a very deep 36mm socket. With the brake disc off I had no way to hold the jackshaft using a wrench nor do I have one that big. I found that you can use an inner tierod tool for replacing inner tierods on cars with an 1/2 inch impact to take the nut right off. My tool came with various sized inserts for different sized tierods and one fits the nut on the sprocket perfect. I fiqured there might be some guys here that have one of these tools and it works prettygood. I don't know how much the tool costs, i'm a Mitsubishi tech and have had mine for a while but I do know i've seen them at Sears and other parts stores. Just a little info that might help someone out. Atleast now I know what i'll need to help my buddy when we put his gear in.

Are ther any other specialty tools reqluired for this job? A thread, like the one for the handlebar fix and oil change, with stp by step instructions would be great.

A large crescent wrench and someone holding the secondary clutch with a bar will also work. You can buy the special deep socket for a impact gun for $35 if memory serves me right. There is a step by step in the Totallyamaha.com Tech Section.

I also simply used a large adjustable wrench and my bud held secondary...was very simple.

Put another big wrench on the driveshaft. The chain can EASILY take whatever torque you need to work on the big nut.

When you reinstall the 23 tooth gear and install the nut how tight do you tighten it? Is there a torque spec. for the 36mm nut?
