There have been several posts about the possibility of a cam chain tensioner failure from 05-07. My 05 vector has a failing tensioner that I caught before it caused major engine damage. What are others experiencing?

I have a 06 Nytro and I am just waiting for the parts to arrive. A guy I ride with lost his engine last year(06 Rage 5-6ooo miles). For less than $200 dollars in parts- I think it is foolish not to do it (noise or no noise). Count me in on replacing it to be on the safe side.

Curious what dealers are charging for labor to do this? I do like my RS Nytro a lot and plan on getting another newer sled probably a FX Nytro but I will be keeping my current sled for the life of the sled. I'll be using it as a guest sled so I'll probably end up getting this tentioner fixed to save my investment. Wondering how expensive it is?

My dealer ordered the tensioner ($120) and I think it takes 2-3 hrs to replace. I don't know what your dealers rate is so you'll need to figure it out.

I'm suppose to take it in so they can listen to it but I haven't had time to get it there (doing an engine rebuild on a polaris sportsman 500). The part should be there today so I guess I should give them a call so I can take it in.

I'll let you know when I find out more.

I am doing mine myself, but i paid more like $150 for the part. I am hoping mine shows up today, but i ordered it one week ago today, so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't come in until next week.

jlparker77, didn't you say in another post it took you just over an hour to get it to the removal point. If that is so I'd say 2-3 hours to do the job is about right.

Parts are at the dealer and I'm dropping it off Saturday to see if they'll cover it. I should know more by Tuesday or Wednesday.

yeah, thats right. I would say if I had the parts and having done it before, I could probably do another one in about 2-3
hours start to finish. That is if it goes together as easy as it came apart.

I just talked to my dealer, no delivery today, so hopefully monday. I am interested to hear if they cover yours.

Talked to my dealer about this and they do not have a clue about it ???? Called the next closest Yamaha dealer about this THEY have no clue about the chain tensioner ??????@$!!!!@#&%@#$

No it was not me. Dealer did mine , and this is what he told me.

I know there was at least two failures with engine damage reported.
