Ted,
Thanks.
I remember what a pain in the butt it was to flush the methanol out of my 2 stroke drag engine after every use to keep things from corroding. I didn't dare leave it untouched on my high $$$ engine components. Holy crap, WD40 was my best friend! even though I ran castor oil mixed with the alcohol...
Any chance there is an upper end lube alcohol additive that could be mixed with the water / meth and maybe help with this nozzle corrosion concern in a trail application? How would that alter the effect of the mix on deto?
Mauri
Thanks.

I am pretty sure Jeff was running more than 22 lbs when he ran 7.97 @ 170. Not bad for a under sized intercooler.Ted Jannetty said:Blue shadow said:How many are running this kit on there rx 1?I don t mine a tear down each year, I do the engine work my self. The fear of a burn down because I can t get 116 race fuel .I know this kit is not for everybody but in my case after 3 burn downs because of hight boost I have to fine something better to keep it alive. So if I can run the meth and 91 octane on low comp pistons 10/1 with the right a/f ratio what would be the limit on boost? This is for 800 ft snow racing .Thanks for any info.
Your intercooler is Far too small for 22 psi boost this is more than likely why your buring down.
I would not run that intercooler past 15 psi for more than 5 seconds.

Mauri for what its worth. My family has ran methanol in drag cars for years, injected applications. I have ran top lube at times, and none at other times. Its not near as corrosive as people are giving it credit for. I wouldnt do any particular maintenance between races which were at times several weeks apart. I just got the engine hot to steam out any condensation in the block from the meth condensing. Several weeks later start it up and race it. I know these things are expensive....... but 20K in a car engine and never seen anything effecting it. Now over the winter - thtas a different subject.
I knew some that would pull the meth from the tank and run pump/race gas through it for a few minutes to clean out the lines, some went through WD40 like water. As long as there was no load on the engine the pump gas was fine, I did that a few times when I knew it wouldnt run for 4-6 weeks etc

Nozzle corrosion should not be a problem since they are all stainless, at least in the kits I sell.

Guys here is the skinny I found Purchased a meth kit from Hurricane last winter installed it on my turbo nytro ran it for 2 months the system was easy to dial in and ran perfect I parked the sled in the spring did absolutely 0 storage to it . In september I brought it in my shop dismantled everything and put that meth kit on my apex, the nytro intercooler throttle bodies and all partys that are in contact with the meth were the same as they were in the beginig no corrosion , you could not tell it was even used period, I ran a stock nytro engine with 14lbs of boost no shim, if I were going again I would not do the shim and run the meth. We did put a shim in it and there was a big difference in response and pull to the tune of about 6grams of weight. Meth will work fine in most cases, just remember when the tank is empty detonation will rear its ugly head.

guys, I think the variable here is the % mix (concentration) that has alot to do with corrosion and plugging.
Kevin Garceau,
You are right, alcohol is not battery acid but it's hydroscopic so it absorbs the moisture out of the air (and fuel) that it is exposed to and that water is what does the corroding. I know in the Outlaw Sprints it is a nightly task to disassemble the fuel system and religiously flush out the injectors, etc. As a contrast, I also know of drag car guys that never touched anything except for longer term storage...
Ted,
Is your water meth brand listed on your website?
Thanks guys!
