Replaced my exhaust donuts 4000 miles ago and thought it might be time again for new ones...nope! They are mint. Good for another 4k. I did however replace the clamps and hex bolts. The new bolts are stainless. Old ones are steel and will rust. Glad I opened it up. The old steel bolts were original and were difficult to remove due to corrosion. Thought I was going to snap my 5mm allen in half. All new exhaust donuts now come with the upgraded bolts.

I was hoping to have a look at mine in the off season but never got around to it. (sled has 6,300 km's, or just under 4,000 miles)
At what mileage was your sled at before you replaced them Mike, and did you replace them with updated stockers or did you go the copper route?

I replaced them with over 4000 miles on the odo. They weren't in bad condition but were showing some signs of wear. I've been riding smoother trails since then so that may be why the replacements are in such good condition. Next time I'll use copper and will never worry about them again.

Are you talking about aftermarket copper ones or stock Yammy ones?

did mine last year had 4500 miles on the sled and they were gone !!! replaced with cooper and all good now. My buddies rage was the same way and he had 4000 miles and only had 1 partially left.!!

Did you have to drill out 8 rivets that support your exhaust mid mount in order to slide the whole exhaust system rearward? I did when I replaced mine. There is no other way for the exhaust system to move on my sled, no way to replace the donuts without drilling out those rivets. Just wondering if the earlier models were the same since the donuts on mine show such little wear.

yes we drilled them out . Tried to just unbolt it and slide it back that half inch and fought it for about a hour and said to heck with this and just drilled out the rivets. Make sure you use good rivets when you put back together !!! I went and got stainless ones . Heard of people having issues with aluminum ones.

Thanks Mike.
Going to try the glove/rag trick over the exhaust tips tomorrow to double check them.
Hopefully the sled stalls quickly then I'll know I am good for at least this year.

Replaced mine at 6000 miles. (2008 Vector) They were do to be changed, but not gone. as for the rivets, just take a channel lock and squeeze the flexible part of the pipe together. That's what I did and had no problems putting it back together, its tight but it worked. ALSO......take a look at your gas tank while you have it off. Mine showed signs of rub marks on the forward bottom. When installing it (the gas tank that is), make sure to pull it all the way to the rear (has somewhat of a slotted mounting hole) as it does not look like it will rub. The sticky on page one for exhaust donuts change has a few other tips.

Well, I may have made a mistake. My exhaust is crazy loud now. I guess I should have replaced them. Or maybe I have something else going on. Stopped on the trail and my sled was billowing steam from the cowling and the venting between the rear pipes. Started it up and it was loud, then it got quiet again, then loud, then quiet, now only loud. Don't really feel like taking it apart again but I probably will this week. It was steaming like crazy! The steaming never happened again.

Did you ever find out exactly what is going on Mike? Curious what all the steam was from personally.
In case you didn't see my post, I did mine as well, and although it would have been easier to remove all those rivets, I chose not to and was successful in getting my new copper donuts in.
If I was replacing with the stock type material, then yes, I would recommend removing those rivets to get you enough room.

Donuts are all good. Pipe split in half in middle of tunnel. I'm guessing all of the ice buildup this year killed it. Rode all year in 0F temps. Time for a new exhaust header!

My 2005 Vector did that last year. Broke right off where the 3 pipes merge into the collector. Welded it back together myself and have 3500 miles on it so far with no problems. Weld it or take it to someone who can fix it up for you. Much cheaper than a new one.
