4100 miles, the saga continues....

I am not one to get down on Yamaha and bash them, but about 3 weeks ago my phazer blew its motor, this was after it was in the shop for the week getting the link fixed. Now it is still in the shop waiting for back ordered parts for the engine. My dealer is great they explain everything and say they would have it back up and running in a day if they had the parts to fix it. I own half the sled with my father and he has been calling yamaha everyday, and we are getting no where. They just say there are doing everything they can. We asked them why not just send a whole new motor instead of building one from parts, but they say that they dont do that. It really sucks because half of winter my dad will have no sled to ride. The reason we both bought four strokes was for the reliability. My Apex has been great, the phazer was great for 2000 miles, now it has been and will be in the shop for the rest of winter. Like I said I love my apex and the phazer when it is running, but these past couple weeks have really frustrating. Especially considering that in the midwest this has been an awesome winter snow wise.

its more then frustrating, its rediculous exsoecially from yamaha.

i saided loyal to yamaha for this?????

ive been out a sled for 5 weeks so far this winter, it oculd be worse??

I have had several problems, including the rear link breaking at 400 miles. Most recently, the torsion springs are shot - no ride height sitting on the rear couplers. Yamaha has refused to provide a heavier spring, but will provide the same springs - crap - under warranty - which will fail in another 700 miles.

Anyway, my dealer - Hauck Powersports - has been great - extremely responsive in fixing any problems. HOWEVER, I AM GETTING TIRED OF ALL THE ISSUES - THE PHAZER IS UNRELIABLE. I plan to purchase an extended warranty, ride the sled hard, and absorb any profit Yamaha may have made on the sled through warranty claims. :tg: Maybe they will offer to buy back the sled at some point.

haha sounds like what im going to do.

im putting NOS on tho and its piped some im sure if it has any engine problems, even if it wasnt my fault, they still wont be any help.

but at least it will cover stupid crap that i dont want to pay for. a arm joints, tie rod end, any of that crap.

This guinae pig is running out of patience. And yes, I will sell it as soon as it's out of the shop for more than 7 consecutive days.......

My Venture Lite is FOR SALE!
No more!
I am buying a proven sled!
Tired of being jerked around...

Yamaha... what a disappointment! :o|

It's really too bad that you guys have to end up selling your sleds and taking big losses ... that is so sad. Yamaha should definitely be compensating guys for their poor workmanship on these. Also, I feel bad to be losing two fellow advocates to help fight Yamaha on this quality issue. Man, I hope they soon wake up and do something worthwhile.

It sucks bigtime to hear what people are going through.

However, I don't see many 08 sleds in here (yet...). I think I'll be buying an 08 or 09 Phazer. I'd still never risk owning anything else than Yamaha. I'd rather spend 1000 bucks and ride around on an old Ovation than test the waters with the other 3 brands.

I been riding The 07 Fx Phazer all year 2300 miles on it. Yes I raced the I500 and finnished. I am not going to get in a pissing Match or offend anyone. Some have better luck Some Just take the time and go over there stuff evertine they ride. As my Uncle tought me when I was 10. Thats the way its been ever sence. Stuff Happens I work as a service advisor, And trust me I see alot of the same problems on mine. It's just the way it is. I would really like to see you guys eather up grade to the nytro or learn how to work on your sleds. Witch is never a bad deal. It cost big bucks to bring your sled to the dealer. I gess The question should be for you guys calling into Yamaha, Just ask them what would you like me to do about the sled what do you sugest A guy do that is having lots of problems? Help me out . Just ask them nicely what to do!

YAMAHA HAS NEVER CALLED BACK

i gave up and said F$*$*K IT

dealers suck anyways and they cant do anything right around here so im better off coughing up the cash and doing it right by myself.

Not true for all.In the case of my bolt falling out of the framemember Y.E.S. denied the claim.Dealer contacted Yamaha directly and thier rep came to dealership to look at what happened.Claim for frame and Labor was accepted .I do realize that takes away snowmobiling time -vs-fixing yourself but making best of situation.Since I would rather ride now.Trails around here are so awesome SRX does just fine.If dealer cant fit sled repair in by next week I will do it myself.

I know this is asking alot but to me the best course is if you are missing riding time somehow buy something else to ride until bugs are worked out of our Phazers.Dont sell your Phazer for a loss. With the winter the midwest is having.Any 2nd sled you buy will easily sell next fall and you should recoup your $ if not even make a little.

Guys,
Steve brings up a good point...alot of the problems people are posting are situations that could have been averted by simply going over the machine and making sure things are adjusted and tightened. After every ride I go over the nuts and bolts and make sure things are all good. Just a heads up...Some of the problems people have expierienced could have been prevented by simply tightening things up before it was ridden.

Do you do the same with your YZF450???

Actually yes.I had a 06YFZ which had some case bolts come loose. It happened in 3 rides.Problem with this sled is you cannot get at all the bolts. The ones to especially be checking are suspension bolts all of them.A-arms and skid those can hurt you if they fall out. Will have to wait till summer to go over engine bolts if necessary. Also dont go tightening bolts without a torque wrench since you can easily cause them to be stressed. If going through trouble just get some Loctite, spray brakeclean on bolt and hole, blow it dry,Loctite and torque them and you can be confident the bolts will not loosen.I have learned my lesson with the frame bolt and both motor mounts.Cant trust any of them.

That doesn't make any sense at all. None of the problems relate to pre ride checks at all, did you even read this thread before you posted?
My new dealer kicks a**. They're very helpful and accomodating. The sled is a dud. Name one thing a pre ride check or better dealer would've solved.

Me too ... I always take off the belly pan and clean out all the ice frozen on the underside of the motor and steering area. That's after I pound out the 60 pounds of ice from the tunnel. Then I remove the air box and check all the inner ball joints below the motor, and then check the 2 ungreaseable bearings and the main the steering assembly.

What are you ... nuts?
Who the hell wants to remove the air box after each ride? I could understand many of these issues with the sled happening if the sled was a few years old, but in it's second year ... come on bye!!!

I've spent as much or more money on this sled in the 16 months I've owned it than I spent on my old doo in the 10 years that she has served me (and still does)!

HIGH MAINTENANCE SLED = $$$$$

hey at least yamaha is fixing everything, i know i feel the pain also, mine has been in the shop for awhile, but hopefully yamaha will learn from this new concept of theres and make it better

Yes, they are fixing it, but if it keeps breaking, do you really call that a fix? And when one thing is fixed and that fix causes another issue, is that really a fix (example, shim in the clutch fixes the reverse but cause the belt to screech?)

Is it really unreasonable to buy a new machine and expect a couple years of reliability and relatively aggravation free riding? I don't think so.

Man, does Yamaha even care about all the negative publicity they are getting? I have never seen anything criticized to this extent before!

it's frustrating to say the least, but yamaha is better then the rest out there at least they are addressing the problem, hang in there ;)!

Brilliant suggestion man - having to do warranty work on our own sleds (sarcasm implied)!! Now, we can buy a brand new sled from Yammie and we are expected to be mechanics as well. I don't think anyone is stupid enough on here to think they can ignore checking their sleds over, etc. But no way should you have to put up with these many problems in 1st and 2nd year sleds. I didn't spend big bucks for this much aggravation or to learn to become a mechanic. BTW, if trained Yamaha technicians cannot fix a problem with their tools, training, and experience, how do you expect the ordinary Joe to fix it???

Also, that was a great suggestion by someone here to have a 2nd sled as a backup. Maybe they should come in pairs eh, one for riding and one for repairing?? If Yamaha is such a great reputable firm, why don't they give loaners when sleds are in for warranty repairs?? Now that is a novel idea eh? Yes, I do have a 2nd sled, which is looking like a better deal everyday compared with this Yamaha market test vehicle. Why didn't Yamaha just pay people to ride these sleds free for a year so they would have time to work out the bugs - instead they use us as guinea pigs?
