I agree you bang your head on the wall with dealer prices on basic service.
Very well might not have been?
Are you in Canada or the States?
I would believe that price just for an oil change in Canada but would be very surprised if your talking about some place state side?
(If CDN, curious on the dealer's name?)
Yes this is a Canadian dealer. I am in Saskatchewan. I called and double checked today. the $250 is for an oil change, greasing and visual inspection of the sliders and track. The materials to do my own $60. Easy decision as doing the oil yourself has nothing to do with warranty if you keep the invoices and buy from your dealer.

Well this weekend (hopefully tomorrow night) I do the oil change. I will be using the Yamaha filter and Yamalube oil. Now the ? I have is on the 2011 RS Venture how many grease nipples are there? I see 3 on each side of the front suspension. How many should I find on the skid?? Are there any hidden grease points that are easy to miss? Next ? I am sure will have lots of answers but which is the best grease to use on these sleds? Does Yamalube make a good grease?
Any tips that I should know? I am going to assume at this point that this is a easy change and should only take an hour or so to do.
Do you guys lift the front end or leave it on the ground? Or does the rear end need to be lifted to drain all oil?
Thanks.
Sorry for all the ????'s but this is the first 4 stroke sled I am servicing. I have done lots of 4 stroke boat motors and such.

24K miles
I have been using Mobil 1 full syn grease on pretty much everything I own for years with great success (knock on wood)!
Personally I turn the handlebars fully each way a couple of times while greasing the front spindles. The rear skid, I pump grease in until I have fresh grease coming out of both ends and NO WATER. Try to keep the skid as grease free as possible otherwise you'll sling some grease up into the exhaust. Not a big deal but early on in the life of my sled people following me would say that they smell burning oil. After a couple of trips to the dealer (no oil leaks) we all figured out it was the grease making the smell.
Hope this helps!

Well the deed is done. Not a bad process but a few issues as with anything done for the first time. 2 trips to the store to get an oil filter wrench I could get up in the access panel. And some spillage of oil as a piece of the oil filter gasket managed to stay on the machine and I did not notice this until even with a tight filter there was a leak at the filter once the machine was started. This was taken care of and now runs fine. Not a bad process now that it has been done once it will be easy next time.

Glad to hear it is all done New4stroker, always fun the first time!
Not sure who installed my last filter before I bought the sled but it would not budge!! I ended up getting it with a big pair of channel locks but it was a bugger.
When installing a new filter,(in case you don't know?) always ensure the rubber gasket on the filter is coated with some fresh oil and don't over tighten it.
I usually do hand tight until the rubber makes contact then another 1/2 turn or slightly more if the resistance isn't that great.

Yup i always coat the seal with oil. Another tip if you cant get a filter off is to take a big screw driver and punch it through the filter and turn.
Now with this change done the learning is over and I know how to work on this machine.
? When should the next change come? at 4000 km? or at end of season?

On the bold, messy that way but effective.
2nd bold: at the end of the season, don't leave that oil in there to sit all summer.
The way I look at it is oil is cheap, a lot cheaper than any type of engine work that might be required for not changing it out often enough or annually.
