Oil changes... My opinion.
#1 First and foremost ALWAYS change your oil BEFORE storage no matter if you have 50 miles on it. Used oil has combustion by products in it and the acids in some of the byproducts can etch you bearings if left sitting without use for a time.
When putting the sled up for storage I Stabil the fuel and let the engie run until warm and get the Stabil fuel through the carbs. Change the oil and filter start the sled and fog the engine (light fogging to help prevent rust on the valve seats and guides)
Shut down and put her away till spring.

If you had a car and only drove it 150 miles a year wouldn't you still change the oil. If I bought a 06 car that had been sitting on the lot with 2 year old oil in it being exposed to moisture etc. the first thing I would do is change the oil. These are not cheap sleds and turn over 10000 RPM. Clean oil is very, very important. That is just my opinion.

Change in now if it makes you feel better, but be sure to change it again once you hit 500.
I highly recomend switching to a synthetic as well, but only after 1000 miles or so.
Oh, and if your Vector's running over 9000 rpms then you've got problems.

I'm thinking at this point I should change it now or I could wait until 500 miles, which ever, what ever, whom ever

ApexerER . Thanks for the advice. I'll ask my son-in-law to do it before this season. Even if dealer had done it last year, it still sat all summer. I want to get skidplate but don't want to make getting to oil filter, drain harder to do. plowking

I think that is the best idea. Changing the oil is never a bad thing.
Good luck

i've read in here and have heard from a local yama tech that because of the internal starting system in these engines its highly recommended to use a sythetic blend oil, rather then full sythetic, it'll cause the starter to slip.....so i've been usen yamalube only in my sled.........
