I was quoted 600.00 to have my track swapped out on my 2017 sidewinder ltx 137. I've always done all my own sled maintenance in the past but this sidewinder is new to me and I don't want to mess anything up?? Is it that difficult or is it worth paying the 600.00???

It's not difficult on these, but can be a bit tricky with the brake disc. Take pictures of all parts before you remove them from chaincase. Best to remove the brake caliper in order to get the disc off, if I recall correctly. You need to strap both runningboards together at the front when reinstalling the driveshaft. Shocks should be pressed down for ease of track swap. You might need a hand but it can all be done alone with the right lifting equipment.

Probably a guide somewhere on this site.

I was a newbie with these sleds and did my own swap. Was a day project but I took my time. There is a good video on you tube, It’s a viper but pretty much the same set up. But to be honest $600 ain’t bad. They charge almost $200 for oil and chaincase oil change around here and that will have to be done with a track swap.

Artic cat dealer by me said 4 hours labor.

It's a lot of money, and not like it's hard, it just takes plenty of time. So the math should tell you what it will cost. 4-5hrs at the hourly rate adds up fast. And anyone that can do it in under 4hrs should be charging a higher rate, as that is moving.

I've only done my Apex twice, and not the ProCross chassis. I can only expect it to take similar hours. I'm always slow with the apex swap, as I lay out all my parts on an open cardboard box on the floor and use a sharpie to label all parts on the cardboard (plus a part count) I'm a bit anal.

Strapping running boards together may or may not be necessary. I've done about 10 sleds. Only 2 needed that. Rest were ok without doing that.

I've swapped a bunch of procross tracks. 800s, 1100s and did my sidewinder last year. It isn't super difficult, but just take your time and take pictures. If you haven't done any internal chaincase work on the sled, now is the time to do it. DMC has his stuff, along with Prevost and PEFI. I'm in S.E. Michigan, so Dave is close to me and that's where I grab my stuff from. Also, I thought I saw that he is giving people 30 bucks off of his gear if they have a usable one to swap, he may be in here to affirm this...

Whereas you've always done your own sled maintenance, you might as well dig in and start the process of getting to know your sled! I'm sure you'll discover much as you tear in to it. Wonder what was done on your driveshaft/bearing? Being a 2017 I'm pretty sure it's not the original. Things I have had to do on my 2017 with over 12,000 miles on it now. On my second driveshaft and third bearing, chain case Chain &Top gear,
track YES, shocks rebuilt, lower shaft on front suspension shock, and check and grease all wheels while suspension is off, and stay on top of your clutches, primary is known to to wear roller and weight bushings fast unlike your black apex. Check your bottom shock shaft on the suspension front shock also while your suspension is off, I'm on my 3rd one. So yeah tear in and save yourself much money, and feel good about making it through a season without any problems! That $600 could turn into much more very easily, by who ever is doing the track swap at todays shop rates, with the attention these sleds need during yearly maintenance! 4 tunes later and I don't baby it much, but it hasn't let me down yet!
