Well now that I have some miles on this setup and tunned in pretty well I would like to share my thoughts on this high end suspension mod. WOW WOW WOW, the area that this machine lacked in last year has been wipped clean to reveal a confident and able sled. The main issue last year was the center shock, wich bottom ALL the time and had no adjustment other then pre-load on the coil spring and the front end that was decent on smooth to medium bump trail but bottomed on landings and big whoops.
I will start with the front end. The TR spings are most likley the best part of the mod, they really make the sled more stable and flat in the corner, they also make the PowderHounds dartless and 10 times lighter steering. They have yet to bottom, the new valving is much better and the Hi/Lo gives you so much more adjustment to really dial in for your riding style. The hi-speed valve lets you dial in the big hits with out sacrificing the small to med chopp. The Lo speed lets you set your comfort level of the normal suspension movment. The bladders keep the shocks cool with no signs of fade.
The rear. The first thing I noticed was the improved feel with the new valving, it was more sporty/RTX feeling and alot like my old F7 SP. The center shock was a MAJOR improvement and has only bottomed 2-3 times. The DR spring and add-on resi w/comp adjustment work very well together. I don't mind a bottom here and there, it lets me know that I'm using the entire range of travel. The rear shock is the one that I had the least issue with and is very good now, the Hi/Lo is sweet and like the front gives you two forms of adjustment to give you resistance from g-out bumps and stutter with a plush but sporty ride. The torsion spacers def improve the sag and keep the wieght of the sled more undercontroll.
Is it worth almost 2k...................%*$% yeah it is. And I would spend it again with no remorce. I think if you can't afford to do this mod, at least the TR springs up front, DR springs in the center w/resi and a basic revalve would make a world of improvement. Hope this helps anyone on the fence with this setup.

For 2k you could of went out and purchased some real nice aftermarket suspension for that sled. That is an awful lot of coin to spend on stock HPG suspension re-valving, springs, resi's, etc. Not to put it down but thats alot for a half hour of labor. I guess the thing that gets me is that Yammi has all the technology in MX and Road bike suspension and they dont carry it over to their sleds.
I think Polaris has the right idea with the rear suspension on that Rush. Once thy get that sled dialed with a big motor it will be a new way of snowmobiling.

Thanks for the great info. It makes me feel alot better that once I get some extra cash together that I will be able to make this sled into what it was supposed to be. Its a shame that Yamaha cant put this together from the factory.

Well Stopandroll, I'd wish mine would have turned out as good. I have the sport x package,and having trouble getting this suspension dialed in. The fronts are too stiff and the rear rear is bottoming on every G out, and thats with the spacers installed,springs on high, and high speed (hex)adj all the way in. Ive tried every combination to get a ride that's close to stock and can't get it dialed in. Your rite on with the handling and the center shock though.

Would this Timbersled rear suspension be good for trails or just mountains? All Floats and no springs in the skid. 30 pound savings? What?

I got the Sport X package for mine, and although i haven't fine tuned it yet, it is an amazing improvement for the sled. I, too, wouldn't hesitate to purchase the setup again. I also looked into aftermarket suspension setups for the sled, as Hygear isn't the cheapest, but the two aren't even close. To get a full suspension package that would work as well or better than Hygear's setup of the GYTR shocks you'd have to spend at least $4k for anything- Z-bros, Walker Evans, Ohlins, etc. The Hygear package really does offer the best combination of price and performance that I could find. And for those that aren't ready to plunk down the money for the trail pro package, the Sport X is a good compromise at about half the price.

Ross spends alot of time testing each sled package before it is let out for sale. If you dont like the valving on a shock send it back an he will adjust . The time he puts in has to be worth some thing.

Im not sure if you know what is involved with these simple HPG (High Pressure Gas) shocks? Half an hour tops for a valve and oil change + nitrogen charge. Everything is just plug and play according to your weight and riding style. Sounds like Hygear does good R&D but are just way over priced. I dont blame them though its a business and they have to make money too.

Unpride, they do much more than just revalve. For the packages we are talking about, there are plenty of parts added as well as individual adjustments. I'm not saying they are better or worse than the competition (as I have not had mine done by both and would be unable say), but there is definitely more to it.

I think they should incorporate the Kayaba suspension from their MX bike into the sled. IMO there MX suspension is pretty much the plushest easiest riding suspension out there.
Diablo im not putting them down but they are just taking the stock HPG shock adding some bling and a new valve and spring. Its all pretty basic suspension setup but it looks pretty. I have looked at their site and it looks good but personally if I was going to spend 2k on suspension id take the stock stuff through it in the garbage and go with the Custom Axis.
