8DN belt and sheave grooves at 800 miles

They do that & it is normal with the 8dn belt. I have very deep groves at 500 miles but that is after a lot of 1000' test runs. Been happening since 8dn belt came out on 98 srx,s.
What are saying then? Just feather them in a little, scuff the sheaves wth 80 grit--clean and then start running the Ultimax 3 and move on?

ive never had a sled that had deep or even shallow grooving on the primary. i only have 240 miles on my sled but this will be unacceptable if it happens and ive owned alot of sleds in my day.

My 2008 Vector has gooves in the primary as well. This is after 500 miles.

I noticed the sled "chugging" a little bit at very low speeds, like when you're just barely creeping forward with it. It felt like clutch slip at the time, and I think it is in the engagement area where the damage occured.

I noticed mine had grooves as well. Stock belt, 500+ miles, the grooves are located down low on the sheaves.

Yeah, same here...I am beginning to wonder about these ultra-hard compound belts. Yes, they may last 5000 miles but if they destroy your clutch at the same time there is no net benefit to their longevity.

Metallicat, the chugging at very low speeds can be because there is a whaist in the belt. Take it of and take a look. My uncle had a BIG one on his venture and damn that thing just cept jumping around HAHA.. But that was an EXTREEME!! So check it..

I too have 2 grooves down low in the primary sheeve. Factory belt and 402 miles on the machine. Dealer told me this is normal for yamahas??? This is my first Yamaha so I have no experience with other Yamahas but none of my other sleds from another brand have ever had this happen.

I also have sheave grooves down low on the primary at 600 miles. (08 Nytro)

It is sort of "normal" but not with only a few hundred miles IMO....

My Apex has grooves in it with 2400 mile on it. It's a product of the 8DN. It won't hurt a thing. Go riding and don't look back.

Not bad advice. Yami does need to use some of their world class aluminum casting technology and revise the YVXR (clutch-whatever it is) formula though.....
