235 miles, we dont let grass grow, clutches cool no belt dust under the cover since I cleaned a little bit at 50 miles, belt looks excellent, one initial height adjustment. Stock. Sled came from Aaron Excell.I took out 7 grams running that belt to get my rpms where they need to be and temps dropped.

I thought 8DN was a harder belt then the 8JP? That would make it slip more right? It will make higher RPM's but it will be higher because of the belt slipping.Like I said try running an 8dn belt temps will go down, so it’s not slipping.

Soft belts like ultimax/gates also won't perform well in anything other than radar runs. The gates 8jp equivalent will drop 200rpm from 8jp which is good! But don't pound on them or boom. It's a trade off for trail riders for sure.

On the other side of the coin the 8dn/xtx belts take a beating but slip more and groove sheaves like Cannondale mentioned.

Mine did the same thing, but it was with stock cover. I've since put on 911 cover. Not sure if it's still touches until next ride

Even the XTX will groove them? I always assumed not since I ran Dayco on my SRX its whole life and never had a issue but it was called Ultimax back then. Could be different now.On the other side of the coin the 8dn/xtx belts take a beating but slip more and groove sheaves like Cannondale mentioned.

So do we all agree that the 8DN because of its harder compound runs hotter and will grove the sheaves?
I do recall noticing my sheaves grooving on my apex which was boosted and running 8DN also.
The 8JP is so frickin dirty. The orange pre-filter on my CAI is almost black from belt dust. its crazy.

Is it just lake racing? I have no dust...and I don't think I'm that nice to it...so far wear and pulley faces look great like my apex. Hoping it stays like that. Got used to looong belt life on the apex.

The newer strong XTX's were my go to belt when I had my RT and loved them. They didn't grove my TRA but I've heard they can.

I ran a 8DN belt for a few hundred miles here's what I found. It pulls a hundred RPM less than the 8jp, is about 2-3 mph slower, and would slip in the clutch eventually causing black snot to build up on the sheeves. But.....was tough and belt dust was virtually nonexistent. If you just trailride, good belt, but for racing, the 8jp is better. Just my 5 cents.

Checked track. It is good.I agree it’s in the secondary. But you rpms shouldn’t be that low. And if the is that big of a load to pull them down that far, that is where your heat is coming from. How tight is your track. An extremely tight track will also pull rpms down. And when you say very soft. How much snow. 6” ,1’. Just trying to figure it out.

What needs to be changed to goto a 8dn? Running 33/35 helix with orange spring at 3-3 Ulmers clutching in primary. I blew my first belt last night was doing some hard launches stand still then pinned it type to see what my rpms were since I'm trying to adjust my clutching to my new powertrail flash. About the 4th she launched hard and bam snapped the belt. Now this belt had about 1300 or so miles on it and the clutches were warm cooler than I expected to be honest. So tomorrow I'm gonna clean my clutches and everything and maybe take a washer or 2 out of the heel and try another washer in the center. I'm definitely gripping the belt very well down low. I have a belt adjuster ordered about 2 weeks ago waiting on barn of parts to ship it.

if you are getting 1300 miles and beating on it, that sounds about right. i blew my first belt at 1700 miles.
to run 8dn, use your secondary adjuster to put the belt in the proper position just above the sheaves. thats it
