Got a 2010 MTX pretty much stock except for a yoshi exhaust. Finally got to hit and hold the throttle(serious lack of snow here) and it hits 9100 and stays there. Seems a bit high I am guessing.

Rev limiter hits at 9350. I herd some people prefer around 89 or 88 but with my experiences it seemed to load up to easy and I like mine more around 92 so when it does load up it drops down to around 88. Just my experience
Now the power curve on a four stoke is much smoother makin clutching less important. 2 strokes tend to build power and. Then drop off at a certain rpm making it harder to clutch because if your off a couple 100 rpm you could miss the power curve

If it is hitting 9100 going down the trail, what is it doing in a foot of powder? It might be spot on in the fluff, right?
Powder.........wish i knew LOL. The only powder we really had was about 6" on the lake in early Jan. but I had a broken knee then. LOL

on the tight trails i like to see my rpm sit around 9300-9400 , i know as soon as i get into the hill and the sweet snow it will drop back down to 9000-9100

I was running about 91-9200 on my first trip out this year. I put some more weight in it and brought it down to 89-9000. I picked up about three mph track speed in doing so. I think your rpms should be in the high eight thousand and you are going to get the best track speed out of it that way. It puts you right in the power and loads up the clutch the best. I think over 9000 you are leaving power on the table that could be used to spin the secondary.
Most importantly you need to check this in your ideal conditions. Snow conditions and elevation can have a big impact on clutching.
