Searched TY and read up on IHI turbo threads. Just curious what the latest consensus is on IF these 998 IHI turbos can be refreshed/repaired? Sounds like 'no' but thought I'd ask.
If so, who/where?
Where's best place to buy new one?
Mine bearings are good but I believe I've got center seal leak w oil entering exhaust stream.
Tks as always.

So there’s a local place and a good friend here that owns Fair Valley Performance and they have been working on this. Right now I believe most of the parts to repair or rebuild are very hard to get because of Cat and Yamaha. But it is eventually a service they want to offer. They are a tractor pulling performance shop and work on turbos of all shapes and sizes daily and have an awesome reputation. Might be worth a call. Call Dennis Frey at 608-643-0200. Tell him Matt Habada sent you.

How many miles on your turbo? these things should last a while. My buddy has an 1100 cat with 35000+kms. He puts c16 and locks the wastegate a few times a season for racing, and that thing still runs hard.

Sled has "only" 5400 miles. 235 hours of run time.
Sled has had rollover bypass since 250 miles. Entire intake system is spotless - no oil, no sludge, no water, no moisture, etc. Intercooler spotless.
However, occasional blue smoke from exhaust when starting engine. Engine "uses" no oil. Level never changes. Some evidence of oil at inlet side of turbo. Air box, crossover tube spotless - NO oil. Only evidence is right at inlet wheel AND occasional blue smoke out of muffler.
To me, center seal is suspect. As you know, we have pressurized oiling to center of turbo.

If it’s only occasional blue smoke, I would leave it. That turbo and engine are barely broken in a 5400 miles. My rear mount Nytro used to pump blue smoke like crazy through the turbo when it was cold, ran that sled for 20000kms like that, guy I sold it to blew the engine, bought the sled back, and that same turbo kit is on another buddies Nytro and still runs good.

Both the compressor and turbine side of the turbo should be dry. Once you see blue smoke it is either engine or turbo produces that. Have to rell which one it is by looking at charge tubes, header , and exhaust. These turbo go thru alot of abuse wheel speeds 100k-150k and you thought a phazer engine spun fast. Best thing I can say it let warm up and let cool down each and every time you ride it. I don't believe there are parts readily available for these units that why i put two in stock just because i have 2 winders myself. Turbos are funny things there is not time that it should last seen them in alot of different applications run from 15k to a million miles.
