Just got my turbo installed by a local dealer. 1st trip out and my sled started on fire a 1/4 mile from the truck. Not a fun situation. Its put back together and somewhat ready. After idling and reving up it has a loud backfire when it gets shut off. Any ideas? This thing already makes me nervous as hell already, let alone with a shotgun going off when I shut the sled off. Starting to wonder if all the cash was worth it or is it going to be a major pain in the #*$&@!!!

I wish I was more mechanically inclined. This has been a steep learning curve!

Alpine kit, nothing against the kit. All the alpine kits I have seen, work awesome. Alpine have been great to deal with. I know once it is dialed in, hold on. I would recomend Alpine to anyone. It just needed a little more attention when it was put in.

sounds like you have a lean idle that can cause backfire when you shut it off.

Well, I took the sled out this weekend to revy. Ran awesome for a couple hours. Found some good snow but poor visability the first day. After 2 hours of riding at around 5500 ft my sled starting sputering. We were heading back down around that time. We hit about 4000 ft and the sled picked up again. Ran good. I was somewhat confused. Anyways next day got above the clouds, sunshine and approx 1 1/2 ft of pow. Sled ran alright up to around 4000 ft again. Sled ran like crap again at alitude and continued to run like crap for the trip down. I coulndt pull over 8 th rpm's. Needless to say I was a little ripped. All the lines seemed to be on. Anyways I didnt ride yesterday, and looked over my sled. The turbo had worked its way loose as the bolts had backed off. Hopefully that was the issue. Anyone else experience this? Any solutions to keep the bolts from backing off? So far 2 trips out. 1 fire and the turbo comes off. Hopefully this is the end of the problems. My 2 stroke buddies are having a good chuckle anyways.

I had that problem also, so I put lock nuts ( the kind that have what looks like punch marks on three sides ) and hardened steel washers on it . Lock washers will not work because they lose there temper when they get hot. I used these washers on the back side of the turbo too as they came loose once before. Ken.

Thanks Ken, I have some "special" washers coming in. Hopefully they work. Hopefully it was just the loose turbo that created that problem. I have some serious but kicking to catch up on!

yes my turbo fell off as well after 4 rides. the cure is to put what is called a nordlock washer under the mounting nuts as well as the exit pipe bolts. and lock wire the bolts. so far i have 5 rides on with the washers in place and still running hard.
