Well, not funny, funny. More like curious, or odd, funny.
We were up in the UP at Houghton the first week of Feb. Toward the end of the week, coming back north on 3 we saw some burned debris on the side of the trail. Could not tell what it may have been.
We got back to the Ramada, and in the parking lot is a trailer with a completely burned up sled on it. We couldn't even guess at what brand it was.
I found the owner, and he told me it was a brand new Polaris IQ with less than 200 miles on it. He said as he was going through the stop signs leaving a little town, he saw something glowing under his hood.
He opened up the hood, and the pipe was cherry red. In a second, flames engulfed the whole sled.
He also said Polaris was not the least bit concerned. They wouldn't even talk to him about it.
This seems odd to me. Anyboy ever hear of such a thing?

I've heard the FST turbo heats up quite a bit, even glows red and loses power from the heat. Of course having your sled burst into flames might suggest something is running a little on the hot side !!!
PS And we complain about over heated hyfax.

Yeah the sled gets hot. I have a friend that rides a Fusion FST - he's also a Polaris mechanic so it's had some updates that aren't available to the general population. It's a pretty nice luxury trail cruiser with the M10 suspension. No issues with excessive heat on our last trip witch had swings from -25C (-14F) to +3C(+37F). It gets great milage cruising at 100 km/hr - better that my 07 Nytro. Running 70-80 km/hr it gets the same as a 600 two stroke. Polaris does make some nice saddlebags though. I can hadly fit a couple days worth of clothes in my Yamaha ones - they need to be bigger.

Not the first Polaris to catch fire in the UP...
I think the guy was smiling because his Fusion 900 problems were finally solved.

Last year in the UP north of Houghton, we saw a Poo 900 fusion melted into a heap just like the pictures. Glad the guy was alright, but we all had a gut buster laugh

In all the Yamahas I've had, I blew one engine. I certainly NEVER had one burn out from under me.

Those pics were from a couple of years ago, taken on the UP around Newberry IIRC.Thewhitedogg said:Last year in the UP north of Houghton, we saw a Poo 900 fusion melted into a heap just like the pictures. Glad the guy was alright, but we all had a gut buster laugh

That's nothing new for Polaris. It seems like once every ten years they build an arson special. The old Storm 750 and 800s used to like to do the Branch Dividian thing too. That turned out to be an unshielded gas line that would rub raw and leak. Maybe we know what IQ stands for now: Incinerates Quick.
Good thing that isn't a 4 stroke Yami with all that magnesium under the hood. Yikes! That stuff is nasty when it catches on fire!

ROFL. Great acronym.
Yeah, you can't put it out with water - maybe anything - until it completely burns up.
