Bad gas? It's running rough, popping through the exhaust and won't start unless I crack the throttle a bit. I changed the plugs and it improved for about 20 miles and now its back. I got a bottle of dry gas to put in today.

It's flashing code 33 now. I'll pull it apart tomorrow and test the coils. It goes down the trail but it wont idle. I'm guessing if the coils was completely bad it wouldn't run at all? It does not have the ground block update but the wires do not look like there is any heat damage. I guess I could go through all the connectors and look for moisture? Season is almost over but the riding is still great.

Let us know how it all worked out! I started this threat about my Code #34 problems: http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/code-34.135016/ They appear to be resolved now, and it all turned out to be a bad connection from the plug in the main wiring harness to the coil. Your symptoms sound just like what my sled was doing, only it was on the other cylinder!

I've been following your thread! I took it apart yesterday again and added dielectric grease to every connection I could find. Slid the tank back into place and it fired up and ran just fine with no code.... Put all the plastics on suited up and went for a ride. At WOT it loses power and throws code 33 again... I rode it anyhow even a slow ride is better than no ride and this looks like its going to be the last week.

Yours is acting very similar to what mine was doing, except in my case, when I WOT, the code would usually disappear! The sled would die at idle, and at low speeds it was difficult to keep going; however, if I could get it up to 35-40 mph, the code and engine light would disappear, and it would do 70-75 mph, maybe more. I would have to nurse it through tight corners and stop signs, but at trail speed there was no problem at all. Good luck, and enjoy your riding!I've been following your thread! Well I got home early today to get a ride in before the kids got off the bus and it started hard... Code 33 Crap I'm going to take a better look at the pins in the connector and dig up the procedure for testing the coil.

For what it is worth on my Code 34 problem, they played with the pins in the plug that went to the coil, but the code kept coming back when the test rode it. They ultimately took the pins out of an old plug they had in the shop and replaced the pins in my harness. So far, at least for the first 170+ miles, the sled runs great, and the problem was solved. You may want to check to see if your pins are loose, or have any "play", in the plug. Good luck, and hope you get in some riding!Well I got home early today to get a ride in before the kids got off the bus and it started hard... I think the pins are the problem as well. The coil tests out fine as I figured it would. The fact that the problem comes and goes indicates to me that its likely a bad connection. I have already put more miles on it than the previous owner and many of them on some pretty rough trails. I pulled the Viper out of retirement so I can still ride but I'd rather be on the Phazer. Although passing guys on a 2-up sure is fun
Try some contact cleaner on the plug and pins.

Well the contact cleaner seemed to have done the trick... I found another problem. Not sure if this is new or I just overlooked it before. Looks like mice got in there and gnawed on the coils.
I ordered a new set of coils...

Buggers!
