Problem is the motor has some electronics and stuff involved, I just can't see them producing a supercharged 160hp sled for less than one with a 9year old motor and no supercharger with all other options the same. I don't disagree, last thing I wanted was to spent 13k on a sidewinder but here I am living the dream .
Issue with costs is the cost of development with the low sales because kids won't get off an iPad and go outside in the winter it means less volume to cover costs so now they need more revenue per sled to keep things viable. It's tough road and hopefully their market share changes. And having the n/a version for 8-9k would be a big help. Then something in the 8-90 hp range to that's in the 65-7500 range. That's the 2 biggest sleds missing in their line up at moment.

As for a non aspirated engine for gas mileage purposes.
Prior to the Sidewinder coming out in 2017 that same engine had been used in the Yamaha side by sides I was told. 112 hp.
I was also told that Yamaha had also come out with a turbo set up for that motor. 130 mph in a 6 speed/standard shift side by side, now that is scary but not to the county boys here in Maine. Was that side by side also called the Sidewinder??
I am not knowledgeable of the side by sides so you tell me if that info is correct??

So some guys would like a turbo-less 998 Sidewinder motor in this chassis with around 110 hp & some would like 150hp Apex motor. Interesting thoughts, but would be confusing to consumers with the Viper still in the line up.
Reality
1. I don't think a turbo free 998 motor would be any cheaper to build, so price would be in Viper range, 13k
2. It would have to get a lot better MPG than Viper or it would be a MOOT point. Not sure on this
3. It would take A lot of re-configuring to fit 4-holer in this chassis & that means $$$(although i would buy it if they did)
Now, if they get rid of Viper they would have a 110hp 3 hole 998, a 150hp 4 hole 998 & a 3 hole turbo 998. That would be an awesome ALL 4-stroke line up!

CORRECT! There is at least 2 inches under my 'Winder motor of open space. EVERY inch counts! At least for center of gravity type situations...agree here...I would hope there is a new chassis on paper at least in TRF that is purpose built for the yammie triple to actually be mounted low in pan....After all the procross is really designed for 2cyl width engines IMO.
Dan

That would be great. Ever see how far down the 2 stroke is? Pretty obvious that's what the chassis was designed for but only way to get the engine lower would be to stand it up straighter like the old turbo and then the center of gravity front to back will be further forward making the sled feel front heavy.CORRECT!
