A Warning For All Yamaha Riders

I burned my sliders at the bend this week on one side only. What would be the cause of that? I just installed a 2.25/153 Powerclaw. I am running the track pretty loose and it is pretty much aligned. Dazed and confused...

I would rather replace my sliders, than do an engine job......I have 2500 miles on my sliders this year and they still have a little meat on them. What I've found with Yamaha sliders is, the first 3/4 of the slider burns like crazy and then they get super hard and don't burn anymore...just cause it's close to the wear line doesn't mean they need to be changed.....

X2, I was going to replace mine before the start of the season, especially having pulled the skid, but going by what others have said on here and the fact I couldn't get a 14mm wrench on them anywhere (was told 10mm is time to change them) I decided to leave them and see for myself.

After doing 1063 km's, mostly in good conditions, they haven't worn anymore from what I can tell?

I am using Yamaha OEM White sliders however and I have read these are hard to beat.

From those pictures.. that's prolly the first area to wear since alot of pressure on track/skid. Also its usually wears there fast while running a tight track... not saying your track was too tight but like others have said there are alot of variables to slider wear. I think the track tension in my cases have always been the culprit.

Normally I would agree with you but I was running nearly an 1" of free sag on my track.

I was going to mount kimpex scratchers on my attak but there doesnt seem to be a good place to mount them unless you use the wheel kit.

I think its related to snow condition,i've had that happen on my vmax 700,they sticked so hard, had to walk back home, but trails were froze solid
x2. I put 2000 miles on Red sliders and replaced them as a precaution mid-trip in QC due to very cold and icy conditions. Smelled a lot of burning on the 2nd very cold morning and had the track stick briefly due to running without scratchers. Pulled in to dealer later than day to replace sliders. Might have been able to complete remaining 500 miles with redneck bolt scratchers but didn't want to worry. Baie St Paul QC dealer installed white. Will be replaced with red next time and will have scratchers from now on.

I'm thinkin the lads avatar tells the story.

Haha, that was before I replaced the slides. Thanks for all the input guys, I'll definitely go with white OEMs next time and invest in some ice scratchers.

Ice scratchers is the only way to go . makes a big differance in slide wear and just being able to go . because some sleds will melt to the track and shut you down .most slides will last if you use the scrathers

Dupont Vespels with low snow wheels at the bend work really well. I have put 800 miles on mine and there is very little wear showing. I usually cook the Yamaha Hyfax ones at this point at 800 miles. Last year I got 400 miles with the standard issue Yamaha Hyfax and with scratchers. This year no scratchers on the Vespels.

Pete:

I bet you it wore down on the cooler side.

I have a 153 Powerclaw/AC skid on my Nytro and it burned the right one down in short order when I first put it on....mind you I was driving it on a hard packed trail with no scratchers, and at 70-80 mph. The big surprise was it burned only one side and it was the right. I think it has to do with the cooler producing water which doesn't lubricate nearly as well as snow??? A guess.

Since then, I have installed scratchers and fully clipped the track, and I have had basically no wear on either side.

I would think the front burnt on yours because the angle of attack on the 2008 skid is steep so there is a lot of pressure at that point, even with a slack track. With the AC Skid, there is a wheel where the flat meets the tip up so it doesn't wear at that point.

So how fast WERE you goin' down the trail Pete! LOL.

Mike
