A Warning For All Yamaha Riders

From those pictures.. that's prolly the first area to wear since alot of pressure on track/skid. Also its usually wears there fast while running a tight track... not saying your track was too tight but like others have said there are alot of variables to slider wear. I think the track tension in my cases have always been the culprit.

White is the best flavor for wear....

What I have always tried to use as well and so far so good with White on 2 sleds. ;)!

White is best by far but remember this time of year when it gets warm during the day and cold at night the snow is turned to ice. Early morning or at night while cold without scratchers and you wil melt the sliders.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I threw the sled up on the lift today to properly check everything. The track tension was good, slides are definitely showing quite a bit of wear, and luckily the belt seems like it's in decent shape still. This will be the last pair of colored slides I will ever buy.

So today, Bieniek and I went out and properly broke them in on the lake. (On occasion you could still smell them burning though)

You could put a set of "Never Melt Mood Ring Hyfax" on......... once friction gets the upper hand, they melt. Could be 40 miles....... could run 4000 miles and then in 40 miles be shot. It all has to do with friction and heat. You can do things to minimize friction (run a loose track, run bigger wheels, run scratchers, use a wide hyfax, use the dupont ones, use graphite ones, use multi colorred changing mood ring ones...... you get the point).

First year ever that I have gone through 3 sets......... Here is why:

1. 270 hp can sure get you haulin' down the trail fast (Increased FRICTION)

2. LOTS of COLD MORNING rides up the mountain after warm days do their damage (Decreased Lube/Cooling=INCREASE Friction)

3. Didn' run my normal scratchers after replacing rails (Decrease in Lube/Cooling=INCREASE in Friction)

4. Was in too big of a hurry to get to the powder and did most of my melting in just two 20 mile trips into the back country

Like I said, only takes a few miles with the wrong equation of heat. lube, speed, etc.....

So my sled has blue sliders, my wifes has red and my son's has black sliders. There is no difference in wear if we ride together in same trail/weather conditions. Now I notice a difference in wear if one of us don't ride on the same day as the other, which is related to firm trails, temperature or riding style. One thing I will point out that they all wear quickly at first, then they stop wearing when close to the line like in those pictures. The wear at first is in a few hundered miles, then from that point a few thousand miles. I use to think they were wearing out quickly and replacing them when they looked like that, I was just panicked and replacing them way to early.

I looked at your pic and I think you have the small wheels up front near the bend in the rail too far back...I have them I my apex rtx and they are forward more.. right at the apex in the bend were they should be to relieve the friction... Just make sure when the skid is fully compressed it will not interfear with anything.I took them off and put them on my new M-10 and there is hardly any wear at the bend. I have 6800 miles on one set of slides!! And no reason to replace yet.

Sliders

Contrary to what some people on here say you cannot heat treat sliders. You are wasting your sliders.

Running Polaris style, black, graphite, from WPS....... Like them the best of the ones I've tried. No substitute for a good set of scratchers.......

Graphite work great and last as long as you have snow , but burn up quick without , i have tried and it is only my 2 cents
