Hey guys, Im looking to pick up a 2010 nytro xtx with lower miles on it. I've been reading about these machines for a while now and have heard a lot of the good and the bad. Obviously every sled has its pro's and con's. Im coming off an 07 Polaris IQ 600. The main reason for switching is reliability. I do a lot of backcountry riding and nothing sucks more than breaking down 30+ miles from the nearest trail in "deep snow". I guess im just looking for some reassurance from you guys that this is the sled for me. If you could go back would you buy a nytro or something else?
Also wondering if the handwarmers are less of an issue in the 2010 sleds or if they never got fixed from 2008. Bending the sub frame also concerns me but I understand they have added some reinforcing in 2010. Is it still weak? How much trouble is it to remove the sub frame so i can weld in gusset that I've read about?

Removing the subframe is easy peasy. 12 bolts and off it goes.
They did some reinforcements on the 09, but definately not enough.
A gusset kit is a smart move

The Nytro is a great sled.. That being said if you are looking at a 2010 I would be sure that you are getting a GREAT deal bcuz i am seeing that you can buy a 2013 w/backcountry track for 8500 now. If you buy the 2010 and get a great deal you may want to do a few other updates to it such as the OFT relocate kit for betting steering, and if you boondock you will def. want to put a set of aftermarket ski's on it.

I have a 2010 xtx and have had no issues with the subframe but I did not like the handwarmers in -20c so I put on the hamaheater and totally love my sled now. I think it's awsome!

Thanks for all the positve feedback! New skis are definately in the cards.
Unfortunately im from Canada and sleds are so expensive up here. Also I don't believe dealers will sell Canadians new sleds in the states so used is the best option as far as I can see.

My best tip is to actually testride the sled. Well actually maybe you shouldn't. It`ll take a couple of rides before you get comfy on the Nytro, but when you do you will be amazed of what this sled i capable of.
As for the subframe, don`t worry about that.
We use to strap the sled down and then pull them straight (atleast so that the A-arms are about right).
This might sound drastic but why change it if you dont have to. Might aswell bend it acouple of times before you buy a new one.

I like mine but there were alot of things that needed some attention especially for a sled that had zero miles on it. I wasn't expecting to stick as much money into this sled right out of the box. I told my wife that these four strokes were going to save us money down the road. Yeah so far that's not the case as she constantly reminds me.

I look at it this way. If I don't crash it I'll have years of reliable fun ahead of me. Was reminded yesterday when when a buds Arctic Scrap quit and had to be towed. I've owned lots of different sleds and these are my first 4-strokes and as Motley says "Luvin every minute of it" Oh ya!

Just did the same as you . But we bought 2 of them. Love the bottom end power. Firts ten miles was a bit to get use to, I know I can't flick it around just yet like I could on the RMK but I will get that figured out over time. Just got tired of servicing our 2 strokes after I get everyone elses done, (usually January) and always wondering when it was going to crap out. Not a good feeling and I am a mechanic . I have been working on 2 strokes for the last 12 years , seen the good and bad in all of them. Just decided it was time for fuel injection and 4 stroke reliability of the Yamaha. Also less I have to worry about the wife blowing up her sled.

My buddy rides the same sled as yours. He took my 09 nytro xtx for a ride. He said now he understands why I like mine so much, but he watches me ride very aggressively while he is more of a follower. I am not sure he is ready to change yet. After having mine a couple weeks I rode my wifes 2011 600 Switchback a little. Much lighter. Nytro has a much funner happy trigger. I have stock skis off an mtx. No issues with darting or sinking. I also have a 1.75 track, which in my opinion is likely mandatory for backcountry on these sleds. I was considering a new 800 polaris pro r switchback, the suspension is incredible. I was waiting for one to come in to the dealer when I found the sled I bought. I think it was the right choice for me. Btw, the other day my wife was on hers and my daughter was on mine, neither are aggressive riders. Mine got better gas mileage. From what they told me, about 20mpg on an easy ride.
