Adding weight to stock clutch weights

I’m looking at going with a stock exhaust tune. Has anyone tried adding weight to the stock weights vs going with aftermarket? Can you buy heavier rivets for the sidewinder clutch weights?

I had a tune with stock weights with a package that I bought through my dealer. He removed the tip weight and just simply added a washer to the new (same) rivet weight which added about 1.25 grams.

When Bender was was doing Yamahas years ago he used to sell lead rivet weights for the SRX.

Not sure if anyone is doing that anymore.

Depends on the tune. Ben at TD says stock weights are OK with ecotrail tune with SM.

Yes I believe this has been mentioned. I ran my TD clutch kit with too-heavy Dalton weights (74.7g) for a day on stock tune and I couldn't pull peak rpms but it was perfectly driveable and still more than the 3 Apexes with me could keep up with. If you're going to be changing weights anyway I would consider getting Dalton 70g weights (QAY-70), start empty and add from there. Easier to adjust than stock and you can get them to almost 78g if you need more weight when you tune her up.

Agree. TD sent me DTYA-1's, but QAY-70's would have been better.

Daltons have a more aggressive curve to "act" heavier then very flat YAM weights. Daltons work much better accelerating vs stock weights(at same rpms).

For the price of them, Its something well worth it IMO. Rather then adding weight to a stock weight tip, and still having a slower accelerating weight in the end. Not to mention how backshift gets slower/worse when adding weight to stockers.

Hey Dan when adding weight to Dalton arms go you recommend turning weight to full stop or 1/4 turn to full stop. Thanks mike
