Advice on repairing undercarriage damage (and adding skid plate)

The compression should take place in the portion of the rivnut where there are no threads. Being well into the rivnut with the threads of the bolts ensures that you won't strip it. Sounds like you will be OK, and if you are not, your package of 10 or 25, will allow you to redo.[/QUOTE

I've used rivnuts as well. from mc master.. I've used them on other parts of the frame as well were I couldn't put a nut. or yamis' stripped out.. nothing like them. An engineer here figured out the right length long ago and posted..I used his part number from mcmaster for 3 skid plate installs.. I have about ten in stock I keep for whatever.. love them. They won't spin like welnuts have on me..won't corrode..brass isn't great with stainless.. and I use stainless on the skid plates bolts. I damaged my under carriage once and relocated the rivnut as well.
