I see lots of people talking about modding air boxes, is this something we can do ourselves or do we have to put our sleds out of service to send them out for modification? hard to do from Canada. I also seen the air box covers being modded to allow more cold air in and a louder sound, can this be done too or again, have to send them out for mod?

Allen Ullmer and Ted Jannetty can fix you up quickly with an airbox mod.. Although the stock airbox does restrict airflow in its stock configuration, you can't just start hacking holes in it and expect good results. The interior of the air box is engineered to provide uniform air flow to all the cylinders. I recommend talking to Allen and/or Ted, both advertisers on this site. They have done a lot of testing to develop their airbox mods.
cut the bottom of the box, where it gets AIR make a bigger hole.look stock more AIR:]

I opened up the lower front portion of the airbox. I opened up the existing hole in the bottom of the box towards the bottom front. That way the air is all still filtered by the existing stock foam. Ulmer's mod opens up the air at the rear of the airbox and looks like they use prefilter material or something else to filter the incoming air. I did the free method. Works fine and no problems at all. I can hear the airbox when I really open up the throttle, but it insn't as loud as a ram air mod would be. I also removed the black plastic in the nose of the sled under the hood. Two philps screws. I would probably put that back in if I were drift busting, but I don't do that.
