That screen is part of your filter the foam is 3/4 of a inch thick and not very big. In a pinch you could make one. I would not run the motor without a filter IMHO.

Appears as though your air box has been modified, judging by the large hole cut out of the bottom of the air box. Without some sort of filter/screen I would think the risk of ingesting snow would be a concern.

will it hurt haveing that hole in the air box

What if water gets up in there
The hole won't hurt but you do need a filter. He cut that hole to access the battery an or the oil filter.

More likely to let more air in as in Sled Dogs Air Box Mod. Should have filter and should be jetted for more fuel to compensate for more air.

With an 06 you don't need to jet up, you might need to make a adjustment with the CO setting. I am guessing that may have been done if needed but you do need the foam filter.

What if I just cover that hole up will it hurt it is I cover that up with some thing I am geting a oem filter QUOTE="chadman, post: 1169292, member: 6679"]With an 06 you don't need to jet up, you might need to make a adjustment with the CO setting. I would just leave it alone and just get the foam filter. There are plenty of guys on here that sell used parts if you want to put it back to stock.

Looks like Ulmers airbox mod or something similar for performance improvement. I have a similar one and it works great.

Did hurt any thing yet

you need to get an air filter and I would find some sort of mesh, either frog skin or at the very least your wifes pantyhose to cover up the bottom hole but still allowing air to come through easily. If you tend to nosedive in the powder lots you will get snow ingestion which could make the sled throw a code. It happened to me in 2008.

How about window screen would that work
