You'll have to unfasten the head light assembly and move it aside, then it will come out from one side or the other, I can't remember which side but you'll figure it out.

Like the man said, the push pins that hold the plast frame where the headlight is mounted have to come out. I believe it slides out on the clutch side.
The manual details the prodedure quite well.
Be sure to sink, rinse and flush the foam filter and and metal screen piece in gasoline to clean any oil residue out. That way it is clean as a whistle.

But K&N's have alot of intake noise. I'm kinda getting sick of riding with earplugs. Mine might just be removed, and an air box mod installed instead. Might be a set for sale.... just sayin...

I took my lid out the oil tank side, and I believe that is the way it states in the owners manual. Mine had a little oil residue on the foam filter right where the oil tube vents into the air box.

It's the oil side. I saw it today in the manual today when looking for something else.

I just took mine out and it went out the oil side nice and easy. I had to loosen one of the zip ties holding a cable but after that it slipped out.
Since I had it out I just ordered some UNI Filter UFV-6 air vents to add to the top of the lid to add some more airflow and cold air.
