It seems I have read here on TY that the air filter on these Apex/Attak sleds seem to accumulate ice/snow enough to warrant checking/cleaning them. It also mentions this in the owners manual as a pre-ride check. The only way I can get the lid off the airbox to get at the filter is to loosen the headlight pod so the lid can be flipped back enough to disengage the locking tabs at the back of the lid.
There are four clips that hold the lid down, so what do you all think of removing the tabs so the lid can be removed without messing with the headlight? The last thing I want to be doing, especially with alot of powder around, is fumbling with the headlight and steering post trim ring screws!

hmmmm, I wonder that too. It would be alot easier to mess with my nitrous without taking the damn pod off all the time

Well I am now down to two tabs. Cracked the middle one off the first time I went looking around! This is not a bad thing as this was the hardest one.
Taking the headlight unit off everytime is crazy. Also, has anyone noticed that the clips holding the headlight bolts in can come loose. One fell of mine while removing and landed on the top of the engine, luckily within reach. I suspect it will be a matter of time before they get lost in the process. I will look at someway to modifiying this. I squeezed them together but the work loose again eventualy.

Yep, those J-clips do come loose, especially if you are pushing on the bolt when trying to start it. It's funny, Yamaha also lists checking the coolant level as a pre-ride check (not that I plan on checking it that frequently). This involves having to remove the steering post trim ring so the top cover can be removed to get access to the radiator cap. I wish the coolant bottle wasn't so thick so the level could be seen through the bottle.

Remove tabs on airbox?
Anyone have pics of what tabs are being referred to that you are removing for easier removal of the airbox cover ?
