All 05's getting new CDI boxes....

I just dropped my '05 off at Nelson's this afternoon for the clutch update. Ryan told me about the new update for replacing the CDI box. He said it was a brand new bulletin. I haven't had any trouble with it in almost 2000 miles, but might as well get it done while it's there. Getting new idler wheels while it's there too as well as the lense fogging repaired.

While I was there, I checked out the new Apex GT. Shouldn't have done that...that is one awesome machine.

Stopped by my dealer today. Asked the service manager if all the RS sleds were getting the new CDI box or only the ones that had TORS problems. He told me the bulletin was for a certain series of serial numbers. Then he looked my sled up on his computer files and told me mine was scheduled for the new CDI box. He then checked on two other up date bulletins and told me mine was also listed to have those done. One was for clutch noise and the other was for jack shaft replacement. It seems a certain series of RS sleds were built with an under sized bearing journal and there are failures resulting from this that cause the jack shaft to break off and cause serious damage under the hood. I suggest that every one check with your dealer and have your sleds fixed before the season starts.

I know this has been coverd before.. But how do you by-pass the switch... I think I remember something about the wires being under the handlebar pad... I wonder if I should call my dealer and find out if mine needs it.. It has never acted up.. :ORC MM.
It explans in the manual how to do this , but with it bypass if the throttle sticks you will be on for a ride.[/quote]

Well, I could never get the pproblem solved with adjustments and the dealer had no clue......so instead of letting it wreck my season...I bypassed it. Plus, theres also a kill switch to handle that problem if it ever comes up.

Is Yamaha going to notify owners about this? Or do we have to guess?

That's a good question......should I call, or will I get a letter or something?
I have a feeling my sled is in that certian group of serial numbers :o|

I hadn't heard anything about it until the dealer typed the VIN into the computer for the repair order. He was alerted to the updates needed at that time.

I don't know if the dealer will notify all the effected customers but in my case my service manager had all the serial numbers that their dealership sold already written on the bulletin sheets.

We'll, called the dealer.
They said my VIN number had 2 bulletins listed for it. First on was the clutch buttons that I had already done. Second one is for a Igniter unit replacement. Is this the CDI box? They said the bulletin number was S05-010. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Yes, that's the CDI box. My sled has the same two upgrades. Mine isn't included in the jackshaft replacement though as I've heard some of them are.

It is still waiting to come in for service, because the CDI boxes haven't arrived yet. I asked him about the possibility of getting the warped idlers replaced with '06 Venture style rubberized wheels, but he said he'd have to look into the possibility.

Is the CDI the same as the Bulletin 010 - "Ignition Unit Replacement?" I asked for the "CDI fix" and this is what they said I am getting. Should that solve the TORS problem?

I bypassed mine also. Had it act up on me three trips in a row. Bypassed it, never had a problem after that. I will get it fixed if I get a letter or something though...
I also bypassed mine and haven't had any problems since but I AM going to get the updated cdi and wire the tors properly now.
