All The Yamaha's Wouldn't Start

A remote starter plus timer...

HMMMM... I'M thinking..

:exc:

Rash...hang tight. We have a really nice unit that is about ready. It will allow you to set the sled for whatever temp you want and it will auto start when it hits that temp. It also has a timer start mode to allow you to run sled every 1,2 or 3 hours with a 5,10 or 15 minute run times. Were down to the last of the testing and production should be around 20 days from our green light to the MFG. Full 2 way LCD remote custom made for snowmobiling as well. I'm hoping to give the green light next week to the MFG.

Im still trying to figure out how you ride a sled in
-40 F .. THats friggin cold..

We saw -30F last week and no way no how i was going to go riding.. You would freeze your nads off.. There was no one at all on the trails around here in those temps..

We did ride at around 0 F, and my sled started easily , my buddys sleds took many pulls to start and pulled over like tanks..

We must face reality. This is an advantage of a basically simple engine design...the two strokes have twice the opportunity to get going, firing every stroke. That's life. I would hold nothing against the Yammies. Maybe they can offer a more substantial battery/option package for cold weather, but the fact is, the military keeps stuff running, or started periodically in order to be ready at a moment's notice.
I have diesel tractors that won't start at zero much less 40 below. Just the way it is.
The timer and starting every once in a while sounds like a great idea to me...

The other thing we have to take into consideration is our battery maintenance, some guys/gals just park their sleds and NEVER OPTIMIZE/charge them and sometimes will get low on power and slowly die and lose alot of its resistance to colder weather, I always have mine on a OPTIMATE III when not in use even during the off season, my buddy does the same as I on his '05 and still going strong!

I get a kick out of guys that say they wouldn't ride in -40 weather. In Northern Ontario (I mean northern) they see those temps quite a bit, so riding in them is a fact of life. There are many places that get even colder than Hornepayne, Hearst, Cochrane, etc. and riding is a necessity so a snowmobile should handle it.

Just curious how much fuel the auto start feature might consume overnight. Anybody got any idea?

Not much. It will idle 5,10 or 15 minutes per hour depending on what you select for the run time.

i work for a honda dealer now. they just sent us an update to cold as starting thier fuel injected atv's. one is run a thinner oil, and when starting they said to hold the throttle wide open while cranking, then while still cranking, slowly let off the throttle til it fires then imediatlly let off the throttle. dont know if it would work with yammies or not though.

Don't touch the throttle... you will drown it... then your in deep #*$&@...

don't start and stop...just turn the key, and hold it , keep the starter turning... and wait till it starts... if you drop the starter and retry, too much gas.. each time you turn the key, a gush of gas goes in, so just do it once, then let the starter turn, and turn, and turn ... until startup...

been there, done that...

had to boost it...

We rode back in January in the UP when that cold spell hit. I had -24 on my truck on the way up there. It was cold all week, but we had all older Yamaha 2 strokes and they all started with no problems. The trails were empty no traffic and perfectly groomed all 3 days we were there. It actually seemed like we were on a super highway up there. I got off trail just to have some fun.
