All vectors on recall

So is this an "official" recall; in that they are/will be sending out letters to all Vector owners, or simply a service bulletin where you have to contact your dealer about the clutch rattle/alignment?

I am not sure it would be a recall.
Has nothing to do with safety of performance.
Just removes the clank.
I think you gotta call your dealer and complain about it to get the fix.

I have an RsVenture and i have exactly what you mentioned, bad groove in my primary clutch faces and i had not fixed the clutch rattle because everybody tell me that it won't hurt anything... i show it to my dealer and he told me that he will fix it on warranty but he had no idea why it happened... i have 5000 miles(8000kms) now.

You make a link between the rattle and the face wear .... can you give me more information on this one, i am very concerned by this problem and want a long term solution.

I know that this clutch slip too much and there is a lot of belt dust in the belt area...

Do you suggest that the pulse hit on a unshimmed clutch can make a little slippage a each pulse that can lead to an heat build up and faces wear ???

tell me more...

Alain

vector recall

I am aware of the shim fix for our clutches and have heard pros and cons on the fix . As of now I am holding back on the fix to see if Yamaha comes out with a better fix. Does the alignment fix cover the Rs Rage also?

No that groove has nothing to do with the clank rattle fix. But this might.
The 8DN yamaha belt is damn hard, here is a quote from Hartman of Hartman Inc. A renouned (especially out west) Yamaha performance guy

"""Belts
The Yamaha 8DN belt is very hard and has a high amount of slipping, which will create heat and loss of acceleration. (The only "good" thing, is that it will last forever). Harder is not better for performance. We use a Dayco Ultimax that is softer and 1/4" longer, this enabling us to get the drive belt to the top of the Secondary Sheaves on the driven clutch. Dayco has a one year warranty. Buy "two" and you have a lifetime supply of belts. Read the back of the belt sleeve, less slipping is "Free Horsepower"."""

I was not using the Yamaha belt and I had major clutch grooving. Even had a notch in the secondary. The reason I linked the rattle fix and grooving was that several have shown up locally and none had the clutch rattle fix . Yamaha is supposedly working on the problem. It only shows up on sleds that are driven at constant speeds for long distances. The ditch bangers and lake racers do not seem to have this problem even with high mileage.

Whats the cons on having the fix done?

None that I can think of. They did want me to have some miles on mine first before they did it. Slight chance of binding but if that were to happen it would be right away or not at all. All it is is a cushioned button, the cushion being the O ring behind the button.
The fix is so simple it is amazing and it does not change the way the clutch works at all :D

i blew one at 2400 miles and when i say that i blew this belt i blew it in to peices and all the threads from the belt got wrapped up in my secondany clutch. I had to get towed home. Took apart the clutch got the threads out and put a brand new belt on. 500 miles later this one starts to come apart. This is why we brought it in to see what was wrong, while it was in there the said they were going to fix the clutch raddle because it was on recall. I dont think the clutch raddle had anything to do with my belts. Maybe im jus to hard on the vector i dont know.

I have deep grooves in my primary as well. I had the original shim kit (the washer version and not the o-rings) installed at about 800km and the grooves started sometime after that. I thought it might have been from smoking the belt a couple times loading on to the trailer but they seem too deep for that. After first finding the grooves I then started to notice belt slippage from 3500-4500 rpm when I started off from a dead stop. It still has the factory belt and its now sits about 0.5mm down in the secondary with 3600km on it. The dealer is going to replace the clutch under it warranty. I'm concerned that it will do it again with no warranty to back it up.

62crusr- Don't tell them about smoking your belt. Yamaha is still in their denial stage on this problem. They told my dealer that it was from using a belt that was notched, but he knew that was not true. It looks at this point that you will have to change your clutches at about 2,500 miles. If it is like everything else with Yamaha, "you are the first to have that problem" and "that would be considered a normal wear item".

recall

This is not a recall but yamaha will cover the cost
