Hi All,
In Nissan Maxima car when I switch from regular gas to an Ethanol bled I gained better than 10% in gas mileage. The same happened for my Buick Regal, Jag and Avalanche.
Can I use an Ethanol bled in my 05 RX1-ER or 06 APEX GT? If I can get an additional 10% in gas mileage and a cleaner running engine, why not?

06 EFI *might* adapt to fuel automatically, but 05 will require rejetting. Reason I say *might* is because its designed for gas. If you jet the 05 it close enough to realize any benefits, you'll eventually blow it up.

I'm not saying I would mix the Ethanol with the gas. I am saying using the already bended gas that you buy at the gas station.

Right. In order to use less gas, you need SMALLER JETS or in the case of EFI, for it to INJECT LESS.

No worries in using a ethanol blend just don't a e-85 blend. Not sure why your seeing mpg increase since ethanol tends to lower mileage not increase. I think it evens states in the OM that you can use up to a 10% blend.

My vector manual says you can use a up to 5% ethanol, although richer jetting may be required to prevent engine damage.
Whats the 06 efi manual saying?

FYI..
Ive been a mechanic for over 10 years now... last night while at a class for Pass keys on Gm vehicals i was talking with an owner of a shop and he and i discussed the fact that we had been installing a crap load of injectors in the past 3 weeks... After talking we determined that we both believe that the use of ethinol gasoine has something to do with it... There is some weird kind of red dirt or particals in the fuel that plugs fuel filters and injectors..
I am for sure going to stop using ethiniol

Is it a really nasty extrememly fine red dirt that goes through most fuel filters? I had something like that clog up the secondary and tertiary fuel filters on my HPDI outboard. I thought it was from the old (1967) gas tank that I was using on my old boat (before I upgraded the boat). It went right through the primary filter.

Its not all red dirt... but we have seen alot of it lately.. and not really sure what it is.. everyone we talk to is afraid of gas prices and using alot of ethinol gasoline..
You would be surprised what will get past a filter.. and that fact that no one knows they need to change filters every 30,000 miles!

Beware exspecially if you have a two stroke and are jetted down because the ethanol makes your sled run leaner.
Ethanol
There has been talk in the state of Wisconsin that all gas should be blended with the crap(ethanol).
Politicians don't care if it causes damage to our vehicle engines, but they feel they can impress the tree huggers as it is to save energy.
But in the latest Popular Science mag, they tell that it takes more energy to produce the ethanol. So is there a real gain other than the fact of not using as much oil to produce gasoline?

We have run ethanol for years, and have had no problems. Father in law won't run it at all, and he is constantly having injector problems, and O2 sensor problems. It is all in what you choose to believe. Those of you who hate it should thank those of us who use it, cause it makes your gas cheaper. Maxdlx
ps, the ethanol that PS talked about was just corn used to make the etanol, if you get it from the normal processing of the corn, it is way cheaper. Once again its who's spin it is put under.

Here in MN it's almost impossible to buy gas without at least 10% and the Gov. wants 20%. E-85 is becoming much easier to get but I have yet to hear what the real cost per gal. to produce this blend is. I know most people thought it was a good deal since it was cheaper but then they find out that you get roughly 20%-30% less mileage with this blend. So is it really cheaper per mile...not much. IMHO, it's better to keep the $ here in the US, reduce our need for foreign oil and give the farm economy a boost...in my book, win-win-win. I for one have never had any ill effects on any of my vehicles.

I heard Wisconsin was trying to go all ethanol 10% by next year. Around my parts (portage) we only have 3 gas stations that dont have it. I've been told that the mobil was going to hold on to the old blend as long as they can. Be careful, when MTBE crap came into Milwaukee, I put a tankfull in a 92 EXT. I blew the crank that winter. The station didnt have stickers on their pump yet.

Our 99 arctic cat ZL 500 batteryless EFI has a switch under the hood for regular gas or reformulated 10%blend. We always ran regular gas in it. Is the new Yami smart enough to make the switch automatically?
