Finally got the time to put the new M7 141"skid in this morning. It was way easier than I thought it would be. The worst part is wrestling all the parts to line up, putting the rear wheels on. I always fight that! Anyways......it looks awesome! The green wheels are on it right now, but the blacks should be here Friday they said. Couple questions for you guys that have upgraded. I noticed the looser I run it, the more the track sags up top and rests on the front mount arms. Not sure if this hurts anything, but I only have about 1 inch of sag on the bottom right now because I'm nervous about the rubbing up top. Also, it looks like my track knobs ARE going to hit the lower shock mount brace on the bottom between the rails. What are you guys doing with this? It is unconfirmed, but they look like they will! Can't wait to ride it, but unfortunately it will be a few day cause I am waiting on a throttle cable for my new 3.5" rox riser and my seat mod to get done. Maybe this weekend. I will post pictures when it is all done!

Do any of you guys have the ACT shocks? If so, are you happy with them or do I need to upgrade? Also, where are you running your suspension setting with them? Thanks.

Here it is!

Just got it done! The throttle cable came in today and I just finished the seat mod. So.......it got Apex mountain skis, new M7 skid, seat mod, rox riser, hartman clutching and gearing and new '05 mountain throttle cable. I will take it out tomorrow and see how she does. Will play with all the suspension settings and repost.

Mark, I appreciate the links! I did use the stock front mounts. It was really pretty easy to put in. We run at about 5-8K here depending on where we go. We're gettin' some snow now huh? I love it. I will be heading up there to meet a friend in a week or so. You should join us!

Your install looks really good, do you have a template or source for your rear brackets?

Another thing I'm curious about, How much did your actual grip height change with your risers? Is there any more to spare with the '05 cable?

I'm slowly piecing this thing together, risers should be here tomorrow, two sources looking for a skid, and just moments ago this;

If you can push your trip off until after the 12th I would love to meet up. I'm getting to know my way around the area now pretty well. Just found a bunch of nice steep clear cuts just a few miles in from Frog Lake snow park (why waste gas on trails).

I'll be gone from the 3rd to the 11th, finally getting away for the holidays. Hopefully all the shipping will be done during that time. (of course then comes the installing) If my stock setup would just work like it did today all the time, I wouldn't change anything. Very different snow than two days ago.

Mark, thanks for the comment. I do have a template for the rear. It would make your life alot easier for me to fax it to you when you are ready. You are looking at about $15 for the 1/4" aluminum.

I had originally gone with a 2" block riser and still had to bend over to reach them. With this 3 1/2" I can stand straight up (I am 6' tall). If you go higher than 2" you really need to get the '05 Mountain throttle cable for it. It is $21 and about 2-3 inches longer.

You would go with the 153" AC skid if you do change with that fancy new track you just bought.

I am actually gonna be gone from the 5-11 myself. I was thinking like the 12th or 13th. Thanks for the offer on a place to stay. Might take you up on that sometime. Take care!

Good job on the ebay track...looks like a good deal. I didn't know you were from Govy....I lived there for about 7 years but moved North 4 years ago. Fun place, good people.

The skid looks good....you are going to love it. The nubs should not rub unless you remove the wheels (like I did). Either way, I did relocate my H arm back and up about 1" and thus had to tighten my preload a little due to loss of leverage. Seems to work good though.

You guys might spend the $60 on the holz bracket for the m7 skid but maybe you don't need it. Also, I have been told that the valving on the shocks on the m7 skid are a little stiff in the rebound and so people compensate for that by tightening the middle shock. I rode it almost all the way tight this last weekend and still felt good. I guess with the slow rebound the suspension has a tendancy to "ratchet" up when you hit a quick series of bumps. Tightening the preload compensates a bit. Good luck.

Went out riding today for about 3 hours. Really like the new skid. Honestly.......didn't really notice to much difference in the Hartman clutching! Was kinda disappointing. I currently have it set at like 60 degrees. Might go to like 80 degrees and see if it makes a difference. I DID feel a vibration and think it is from my track nubs hitting my lower shock bar. Might drill new holes up and back alittle to move the brace. Other than that the riser is awesome, the seat mod is totally awesome and life is good. When you would stop and get off your sled you would totally sink up to your crotch. At least 3 feet of powder. I did get stuck 3 times, but so did the summit and the M7 I was riding with, so I didn't feel to bad! The Apex mountain skis are by far the biggest improvment I have made. It actually stays on top of the powder. Even when I got stuck the front end was right up on top! Totally recommend those!

Did you change the weights in the drive clutch too?
I got a bunch of clutch parts from Hartmans as well, nice guy to deal with. My engagement went down to like 3500 rpm. That was the most noticeable thing to me. Got one of his billet multi-angle helixs on the secondary and this is likely making a big difference that I'm too dumb to notice, i.e. my rpms stay where they should while climbing. Wouldn't really know as my guages are always completely covered with snow (Hee, heee!)
We started it out in the 1 and 6 positions, but moved it to 3 and 3 which I think is 60. We did this because I blew up a brand new Dayco Ulti3 belt in like 80 miles even after properly breaking it in, or so I thought. My second U3 belt is hanging in there after several hundred miles. I notice though that my rpms will get up to 11000 on the flats but hang right at 10000 when climbing which is perfect. I think that stock primary is a POS and should possibly only be used with the bulletproof oem belt. My original oem belt will stay on as the spare, I know it will always get me home. Pretty scary yanking on rubbery kevlar cords all wedged into your secondary while by yourself 20 miles out. The other posibility is my gearing is too high, have no idea what it is. Once I get a litlle more time on this belt I want to try going back to the 1 and 6 on the secondary for faster back shifting. The softer Dayco belt has noticeably better better engagement, and noticeably lower top end speed compared to the oem, I guess this is what we want.

One other question about your risers. Was your stock brake line long enough? Choke line too? I just got these Powermadd 8" pivot risers, and adapter which is another 1.5". If I go to a no rise bar that will be 2.5" higher than the stock grips (stock setup is about 7" above the top of the steering column) I want a solid 4" above stock so I need to find some bars with about two inches of rise. I've got some nice Easton carbon Mt. bike bars with about that rise but not sure about the clamp area length. I think they would be strong enough, and would absorb a bunch of vibration. My arms have been going numb at night after a lot of riding. I understand the grip heaters will work poorly at best with aluminum bars (not that they are working at all at the moment!) so its got to be cromo or carbon.
The '06 apex Mt bars are a pretty nice looking bend but are like $115 discounted. Plenty of motocross bars available cheap but mostly aluminum.

BTW, I'm going to try these guys for OEM parts. The '05 throttle cable is like $16.xx from them, all parts are well below msrp. Compared to the Portland dealer who is msrp + 20 percent, its worth a try.

I honestly just didn't notice really anything different about the clutching. I think it was a little peppier with the stock stuff in, although I didn't get to do to much hill climbing to really test it out. I will leave it alone for a few rides and see.

As far as the riser goes.....everything was fine except the throttle cable. I do have mine pretty far forward, so I'm sure that helps. You can always re-route your brake lines behind your coolant resevoir if you need to. Choke cable, no problem! I think I am pretty much done spending money on mine. If you don't have the new mountain skis, get some! They are awesome. I just posted on here one night to trade my simmons for new mountain skis and a guy with only one ride on his new Apex wanted to trade. Worked out really well. They actually turn now instead of pushing and they float excellent! Take care for now.

You need the ski bolts and the sleeves the bolts go through from the Apex. The one that goes through the steering knuckle.

i have the same ski's as the apex on mine. Mine are just blue. The apex ski's are no different than mine.
 
Those ski's came on the 05 vectoir mtn and rx1 mtn also they where brande new for the 05 sleds.
