I have the same problem as poaris86's buddy's sled with the exception that I don't have a power commander.
When I first turn the key, it fires, if it doesn't run after the first attempt, it will not fire again no matter how many tries unless I hold it wide open on the second try & then it will cough & sputter for about 20-30 seconds until it cleans itself out. After that it purrs like a kitten. When it is warm it starts fine as well.
I syphoned out the fuel & replaced with fresh stuff, made no difference.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

I have had bad fuel regulators on other vehicles do exactly that. They dribble a bit of fuel through the vacuum hose flooding the engine on the next cold start. It takes a few hours to do this so there is no hot start problem. Something to check.

I know the plugs are a PITA to get to but if you could pull one after you have been cranking it over for say 10-20 seconds it would be nice to know if they are gas soaked or dry as a bone.

I am thinking they will be wet as I have to hold it wide open for almost half a minute till it starts to clean itself out & run right. I will pull a plug & check to verify for sure though.
Would it be worth changing them all ? Pain in the *$%# butt to change them, but if need be I will do it! lol

Mine has done that a few times on really cold morning starts. I have never figured it out, just cross my fingers if it is frigid out (-15 or below normally)
Mine only does it when it is cold out as well. A friend of mine said to let it cycle a few times before trying to start it as he says when it's cold out it sometimes needs a little extra fuel to get it running.
I will try it tomorrow & will let u know how I make out.

Ok, I let my sled fuel cycle twice before turning the key all the way to engage the starter. It started fine late last night as well as this morning. The temp was below 20 celcius both times.
So far so good!! wuhooo!

i have this problem occasually, usually when my sled is facing a heavy wind. i figured something freezes. make sure no one is in front of you and hold it wide open. it did it before the power commander and after, i use cr10.

CR9's are hotter than 10's and the 10's do not start any better. I had no problems starting in the cold with stock plugs, added CR10's too cold no start.

Same here ! If i know its going to be cold night and its sitting outside i will try and start it before going to bed and let it warm up for maybe 5 min or so.
Same thing early morning.
