anti freeze

I bought an 09 xtx with 1000 miles. Opened up the cooling system this summer to put in MPI coolers. Took the hoses off the radiator and found something that looked like small chunks of rock candy. Took radiator in to radiator shop had him flush it out. Them totally flushed the rest of the system. I am not sure if the last guy put in an additve of some type or what. From here on out I am going to flush every seasonor two at most. The rest of the system didn't seem to have this in it like the radiator.

I'm going to replace the coolant that's in there now with Shell Extended Life Coolant (ELC) for diesel trucks. It's supposed to last 600K miles, 6K hours or six years. Checked for compatibility and all the manual says is that it has to be silicate free, which this one is.

Drained my system tonight and added only Engine Ice. Service manual says total capacity is 4.97 qt's. I couldn't even get 4 qt's. My guess is that not all of the old coolant was removed even though I lifted the back end and even tiped the sled on the right side. Note I do have the MTX heat exchanger so this is why the capacity is more than the standard 3.59 qt's
Does anyone know what I should do to get more coolant in the system? The over flow tank is not filling even though I did burp/bleed the system.

might not be as much of a big deal on aluminum blocks and heads, but we do PH tests on our tractors and semi's yearly because our cummins dealer said bad coolant will pit the sleaves creating hot spots on the cylinder walls. after learning that everything on the farm gets PH tests. everything also gets John Deere coolant conditioner which balances the ph level, extending the life of the coolant, its formulated for diesel coolant so i havnt tried it on the toys. even though we dont test our sleds and honda quads, they dont hold much so i change em out bout every 2-3 years. new sled is 16 thousand, gallon of antifreeze is 15 bucks. cheap maitenence. you can buy these PH test strips almost anywhere, i just buy them from john deere

This is from the Nytro manual. I think changing the coolant yearly is a little excessive but every other year isn't a bad idea.

I was thinking the same thing, But I don't know for sure. Grizz's post I think said it all change coolant every season. That might be the fix to the whole thing. That is what I intend to do.

I've never had any problems with it. Use it in several cars, bikes and sleds.
I have used both the liquid and the dry crystal water wetter.

I was about to say the same thing.

I did some research on it about a year ago and the findings were that after awhile it has been known to more or less breakdown and leave deposits (black lumps) and that some are big enough to block off the smaller capilleries in rads and cause internal corrosion. I then decided I wasn't going to use it.
