I have a 03 shorty. Just bought an 1 1/4 ripsaw. I was thinking about installing 8" idler wheels on the rear. There are 9 tooth drive wheels for the front as well. I have a question, Is there enuf track left for the 8" idlers and the 9 tooth drives to keep the track loose? And, if you go to an 8 tooth drive, (like on the mountian RX1) would your track speed increase significantly? ...

smaller the driver slower the track speed
8 Tooth drivers will lower your top end speed, but give you more off the line. You could also re gear the chain case to get most of it back.

there is enough room to run 10 tooth internal drivers with 7.5in. rear idlers (older yamaha style) . track will be tight with axel moved full forward but will stretch with some miles. you will have to make gearing changes to compensate for 10 tooth drivers
