Had about 1500 miles on my Yamaha belt on my Nytro and blew it about ten minutes after lake racing numerous times on the trail. Removed it and put on a Dayco that lasted about 50 miles and blew into a big stringy mess. The secondary clutch was stuck open because of so much string. I tried to get all the strings out but couldn't had to tow it home. Going to remove the clutch and disassemble it. Won't be buying a Dayco again will stick with Yamaha which blew apart much cleaner with no mess. Any tips on getting strings out??
Thanks

I am assuming they are wound around the secondary (driven) clutch? If so, easiest to clean is to remove the helix and spring (three 12mm nuts) and seperate the two clutch sheaves and and remove the strings that way.

Not that hard of a job and alot easier that trying to pick and cut the strings out of the clutch a little bit at a time, in my opinion.

Yes, you are correct they are all around the secondary. It's just not something I wanted to do on the trail in a storm and you got 6 guys waiting. Now that the sled is in the garage thats what I'm doing. Just sucks when you got to be towed and embarrassing and that aluminum wet left foot protector bent to pieces. Thanks just thought I missing something.

the job of removing the secondary and the helix is 2 wrenches and 5 minutes. you might want to practice in the garage in case it happens when you are alone.

yes.......and to add to this you might want to have a utility knife or a dikes type sidecutter along.

As for blowing belts ,I have seen this on the Nytro models. Not sure if it is a problem or what. Normally the Yamaha clutch system has been very good. Being the Nytro is a very torquey machine I wonder if they are having issues with flex and the clutches are coming out of alignment under load.

Does the Nytro run a different belt than the Apex? Otherwise maybe they had a bad batch of belts for this model.
