Headed up this weekend (far west side, Bergland)- just wondering how bad it's getting up there with all the weather. We've lost almost all our snow here in the northern lower. I imagine things are bad up there too, but hoping that the larger base might get you through this sh*tty weather. Lets hear it- any chance for some riding, or are we spending the weekend in Hurley with the "girls"... (not all bad)?

There is snow...but there is also water my guess is the western end isn't much better. It will probably have refrozen by the weekend but my guess is the trails will be rough as hell because we won't get enough new snow to pad the ice and hard pack.
:o|

up

40 degrees rain and thunder here, if possible you may want to change weekends, if not take extra money for the girls.

Drummond Island, We've lost snow, but had plenty to begin with, the ice bridge to Canada is very good. But all trails are ICY!

Trails closed in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario ...Trying to keep a good base on the trails....

yamadog, how is life in Gods country, I used to be a member of the Hiawatha Sportsman club for 14 years, when we didn't stay at the cabins on the club, we were tearing it up at Kings Motel. I loved it so much up there I actually bought a place over in Trout Lk and had it for 4+ years, you have some awesome trails around there. I was going to come up there early Saturday morning but after reading your post I think I am going to tie one on at Houghton Lk. Keep us posted as to weather you guys get hit with that snow on Thursday or not, might just end up staying home all together.

Well guys, Thursday morning, several days of rain, we probably lost 50-60% of our snow. It's now 34* and snowing. Whopee. Trails still have a base in most areas, but are not good. The lake has a solid 20 inches of ice, but when this all refreezes, it will be pretty much glare. Tough on slides and overheating. All in all not good. We need snow!!!

x2 conditions VERY similar here in Newberry

Lost a fair amount of snow here in Marquette...still plenty left, but all of the road shoulders are bare.

The trails are still ok, but will not hold up to much traffic unless it freezes soon.

Just a couple of wet flakes in the air today...still above freezing.

If it turns cold, but we don't get any fresh snow, it will be very icy for the weekend....think I'll stay home this weekend.

Got back last night from the weekend in the U.P. We stayed in Bergland and rode to the Porkies and around that area on Friday, got about 150 miles. Trails in that area were decent with a couple of cruddy spots here and there and no snow on shoulders. Trail 13 was perhaps the roughest 20 miles I have ever ridden (picture 2-3 ft whoops the entire 20 miles) on Friday night coming back to Bergland, but would suspect things are groomed and much better now. As we got closer to Superior things got a little better. Groomers were out, and trails were stained but had good snow. Saturday we trailered the sleds to Hancock and rode to copper harbor. Trails in the Keweenaw were fantastic! Some of the best riding we have had this year. They got whooped out in spots, but overall- a great day of riding. We got about 175 miles up there. It snowed a few inches on both nights so things improved as the weekend went on. If we get no further warmups and they keep getting snow- the western UP will be good for the rest of the winter. The eastern end of the UP and especially the south eastern parts (Manistique, Newberry, etc.) looked pretty bad on our way back through on sunday. If you have any trips planned for that area, you might want to reconsider unless they get a ton of system snow soon. Hope this helps some people -
