I HAD 168 woody's gold diggers on my RTX. After riding in fairly good conditions, I have about 1/3 of them broken off at the nut.
Anyone else had this problem?
I have put about 1000 miles with them but am still not impressed to see about 50-60 of them broken off.
Should I just put the "long" nuts on them or try another brand.
I am using the 1.325 size.

I have 1.450s Woodys Singature Series and all 144 are still there, with just the regular nuts. I think I have 2-3 bent, but with shitty conditions, it's expected. You have to know when not to throttle with lots of rocks under the snow in many areas.
The GD are supposed to be much stronger than the SS too...

Yup I gotta couple of broken woody's also. Started with 168 probably down to 165, so not quite as bad as you. They also all broke off at the nut.
Guess were a little to throttle happy

Yea,
I know not to throttle on pavement and rocks etc. I think they are breaking off while on the lake.
Is that possible?

i would say no, if you are riding in ny conditions are less than perfect. it is better to break off at the nuts than have holes in the track. the taller nuts will probably make the studs rip out.stoutner said:ZR800EFI said:I have 1.450s Woodys Singature Series and all 144 are still there, with just the regular nuts. Has anybody broken any of Woody's Signature series. I am halfway through putting 144 of the doubles and singles in, and now you all have me worried.... Our conditions here usually suck, adn that is why I need to stud it, but if I am going to break them off, I might as well get an Ice Ripper track?????

Can't see it...who knows.
Sorry, I wasn't meaning on pavement and rocks, but on a snow covered trail where rocks are at the top, but not visible. I'm sure that's where I bent a couple.
I have 144 GD in my ZR9 with 2200 miles and they are all fine too.

168 sig series here.... many are very slightly bent but no breaks yet.... 1.325 with satndard nuts.....
Well in my experience all brands seem to have some problems. I have run the Stud Boy power points, Woodys, and extreme max. The Stud Boys bent over like they were wet noodles! After bitching to the rep. they gave me a replacement set. I figured the problems would end but no dice. The Woodys never bent or broke but the wore very quick. So the last few 1-1/4 tracks I have studded I have used the Extreme Max 1.400 with the short nuts. I bent 3 last year and since they have 2 year bend or break warranty its as simple as bringing in the old bent ones and they give you new ones no questions. The price is hard to beat! You could buy 2 sets of Extreme Max for the price on 1 set of Woodys and they last twice as long.
Just my 2 cents!

1.25 lug 144" Ripsaw track on ’05 RS Venture
In 2005 put on
118 Woody's Gold Digger Traction Master 5/16 1.325, square aluminum backers, regular nuts. $310.
2900 miles.
Bent: 4
Broken: 38 (1/3)
Pull thru: 0
In 2006 replaced all Woody’s with
118 Shade Tree Stainless Steel 2 year warranty 5/16 1.40, Air Lite 45* angle plastic backers, regular nuts. $191.
1900 miles in a worse snow year.
Bent: 0
Broken: 0
Pull thru: 0
Guess I don't get to use that warranty.
2007, 500 more miles, still all good.
I used the standard V pattern down the middle and it has worked fine.
I'm afraid of the tall nuts because if and when the stud bends or breaks it could be very tough getting that nut off.

I had 96 woody's studs in my vector and broke 50 off in 3500 miles. After that i said screw woodies im gonna get Max studs because they have a 2 yr bent or break warranty. Let me tell you what that was a mistake. Woody's designs there studs to shear off at the nut. If they didnt they would pull through the track and believe me that is what the max studs did. I would never run max again because they pull through my track instead of bending or breaking. JRF

Never broke a woodys ever in all these yrs...you guys must ride crap conditions maybe??...i stud lightly at 96,always run 1.175 with 1 inch track....plastic backers to save weight..never had an issue with studs or backers..
any stud will gice out if you ride it a certain way..lakes are only place i let it rip mostly..ice cant hurt...but rocks on trails can.
