Anyone have a 2008 SKI-DOO Modular 2 helmet? How is it?

I am thinking about buying a new modular helmet so I am looking for some feedback.

If you have one or have checked into one what are your opinions?

Brian,

I just got one last week and my initial impression is good. I plan to use it today in blizzard-like conditions and will report back later. The first (and only) time I used it, I found it to be warm and comfortable without a balaclava and had no fogging of the shield or my glasses. The temp was in the 20s and it was dark out so I didn't get to try the sun shield. It didn't come with any extra absorbent pads for the breath evac mask, so I made some from an "absorber" synthetic chamois that I will try today also. The peripheral vision is very good with their new shield design.

i like the modular2 helmet it takes a little getting use the the nose/mouth vent, but once you have it on awhile you get use to it, no fogging

I have the first generation of the modular and it is the only helmet I can wear with the sheild shut all the way with no fogging of my glasses.
Like shark said - ya get used to the face mask after a little while.

Well, I just got back in from a ride. It's 1° F, snowing, and very windy. My glasses started ICING up after breaking through some drifts and I had to return to the house. I cleaned off the no-fog goop from my glasses, removed my balaclava, tightened the straps on the breath-evac mask, and headed out again. It was a little better but my glasses still fogged up then iced up, cutting this ride short. :o|

The shield never fogged up, so if you don’t wear glasses and/or don’t have a beard (I do), this helmet should work great for you. I hope I can get contacts to correct my vision but couldn’t get an appointment with the eye doc until the 25th. Hope your results are better.

Thanks for the feedback Martin, maybe you will have better luck when it warms a little. I don't have a beard or glasses so hopefully I will be ok.

the new version is way better.
the shield pivot outside so no air comes in around your cheak like the old one.
shield fits alot tighter at the bottom and doesn't let air past.

there is a vent in the top that takes the frost off the inside of the shield after you stand around and talk for a while. it is removed very fast.

there is rubber on all vents and jaw latch so they are easy to grip.

breath box is the same as the old one, you will need to install o rings on the inside to keep it from pulling out.
buy an extra set of snap latches to keep in your sled so if you pull a snap or crack the plastic.

it has a new lower chin flap that is held with magnets up to the helmet, they can unhook when you turn your head and can rehook when you get going again from the wind. if you feel some wind in the helmet, one has unhooked. easy to attach.

the brp emblems are removed easily and you can buy a yamaha emblem that fits perfectly in its place.

all in all love the new helmet, much more refined, fits better, better vision, warmer and is worth every penny.

i would love to see them add a yellow shield for the glasses, wind proof material and stiching for the front bib, led light in the rear and a light in front like the cat helmets for reading maps.

maybe in another 6-7 years.

Thanks for the tip. That is the only thing that pissed me off about the helmet. One of those hoses would pull out damn near every time I put the mask on.

Hi I've been using the helment the whole year so far and like it alot. I don't use the breath-evac mask. I put a electric sheild on, I didn't like the mask on my face. With a electric sheild no fogging and no problems yet. The thing I like the best about the helment is the flap on the bottem of your chin keeps the air from coming up from where your chin is. I always had red checks and this year I don't look like santa.

I bought one approx a month a go. I've tried it from -2 to -35 C and has never fogged up. Well I had a little issue getting a good seal with the face mask at first. I couldn't get a seal on the bridge of my nose so I used Tuck tape and taped in two metal clips from a dust mask. I used two for the added stiffness. Since this 5 minute fix I've never had a problem. Half the time I don't use the white cloth in the mask. The vision is great and I like the sunscreen.

Thanks for the idea, I'll try it as my nose is a bit narrow. I was just looking at the helmet and noticed that when closing the front, the ends of the elastic straps on the mask were getting caught in the latches. Also, the latches hit the breathing tubes and push the mask down unless I squeeze the latch release while closing it. The shield doesn't snap closed all the way if I pull it down by the tab on the front. I need to push down on the top of the shield. I'm trying really hard to like this helmet, but damn, it has a steep learning curve!

to shut the helmet open the windshield and use your thumbs to push in the breathing tubes as you shut the hemet. I have been useing one since they came out, I use a thin bavlaca and no inserts in the mask as those things are nasty.
