I was wondering if anyone has ran a Shockwave adjustable helix on a Vector Mtn or RX-1 with a 100% stock clutch(s) setup? I am looking to pull a few more rpms with climbing or in the powder on my 05 Vector Mtn... Would the Shockwave be a quick fix to allow me to do this? Or does it require other clutch changes to provide the benefit of a flatter helix angle for example?

We do a combination of long trail rides and then some climbing at the play areas, in the deep stuff. The Shockwave sounds like the perfect solution for me. Is it?
Thanks.

Give one a try with the stock setup. It will certainly help at least a little bit. You'll surely notice an increase in RPM with the ring turned all the way in. Get the progressive angle helix for a non turbo application.

Here are a few things that helped me pertaining to the Shockwave helix.

1. I run the strongest primary spring Yamaha makes (O/S/O). Someone please let me know if there is now a stonger one. I even add three of the Yamaha spring shims to increase the total force even more. This helps the engine hold the RPMs better.

2. You'll probably want to lighten your stock clutch weights to take full advantage of the adjustability of the shockwave. Your best bet would be to buy a set of heavy hitters or super tips. My heavy hitter cluch weights are nearly empty right now so I could pull a steady 10,500 while climbing at 7,000 feet in the heavy spring snow last year. That was with the adjustment ring turned all the way in for maximum RPM. Once I get off the mountain I can turn the ring back out to keep from hitting the rev limiter (I have never done this) on the lower elevation trails.

3. I am running a Yamaha silver spring at 90 degrees right now to help add just a few more RPMs while climbing. Honestly, I think I like 80 degrees even better but the backshifting at 90 degrees is incredible. Does Yamaha make a better secondary spring now?

I think the Shockwave was one of the best mods for the money I have ever done on my sled.

Good luck

Frosty
