Well I pulled my skid out for the first time ever on my 2009 nytro (only bought it last year.). I am putting in the star suspension kit and going to be getting my shocks all revaled, I was just wondering if there is anything maintenance or anything I should be doing while I have the skid out? I am also going to be taking my subframe out to weld the gusset kit in, I was looking at my front end and the a-arm bushings have a little play but not much at all, but I am going to put in oilite bushings while it's apart. I have noticed the ball joints also have a tiny play, (top and bottom) they move about a 1/32" I'm not sure if there still alright or in need of replacing?

Search my posts on my rear skid issues. Some or most may not apply depending on your riding style, but it should cover just about everything.

yamaha06,

I would check all of the idler wheel bearings. I usually just give em a spin by hand and change out any that are noisy or feel rough as the wheel rotates.
Also while the skid is out, now would be a good time to change out the left (clutch side) drive axle bearing. They run about 25 bucks from Yamaha and I normally will change mine every other season.
What can happen is water can work its way past the seal and rust the bearing while the sled sits over the summer. If the bearing fails it can take out the chain case and pretty much ruin your day. Cheap insurance IMO ;)!

Sounds good guys I will look into it. Does anyone have a download of a service manual for a 2009 nytro xtx, the service manual in the FAQ is not available anymore.

Sorry don't mean to jack your thread but I am having trouble re installing my skid got it worked back into the track but can't seem to get the skid back far enough to get the front 2 bolts started .....
Not sure what I am doing wrong ? Any suggestions
Thanks

Do you have the rear axle adjusted all the way loose?
If so then you just need to muscle it around to get it on there, if they are not all the way loose then they need to be loosend!

Remove the idlers and spring mount, this will allow the skid to collapse, also remove the front transfer. At this point you'll have enough room to slide the skid back. Install the front bolts and nuts (loctite is your friend), then lower the rear grab bar until it's at about the normal ride height, then flip the rear suspension arm up until it lines up with the bolt, may take a few tries to the the two heights just right but it will line up perfectly and you won't be fighting it for an hour. Some use straps, ropes, clamps, etc, to me this is the easiest and safest way to go.

They are loosened all the way and still couldn't get it in there wasn't sure if I had to have the rear of the sled higher or something ? It is like 3 feet of the ground now
Was almost thinking of taking the rear axel and wheels off to give me more room but thought there had to be another way. Maybe I am just not trying hard enough
