So I hauled a friend's 2016 Apex with a blown motor over to Meyer's Yamaha in Ishpeming today...got me to thinking, I'm not sure I can ever remember an Apex with a blown motor....at least not in my experience....so just how common an occurrence is this?
(Meyer's already looked at it and said it threw a rod....FWIW)

Not common but it happens. No motor is bullet proof.

I’ve heard of a couple new ish Apes throwing rods this season. Was pretty much unheard of under normal use up until this point. How many miles on it? I wonder if maybe Yammy has an issue with the rods in a limited number of 4 cyl motors like they did the 3 cyl that one season? I have no evidence to support this, just posing the question....

I posted this last week(with a pic), also a 16. I'm thinking that the 16 Apex engines must have had their con rods outsourced like the 16 Vipers. So I hauled a friend's 2016 Apex with a blown motor over to Meyer's Yamaha in Ishpeming today...got me to thinking, I'm not sure I can ever remember an Apex with a blown motor....at least not in my experience....so just how common an occurrence is this?

Well, a blown apex engine is as rare as seeing a Sasquatch.

Wow I am shocked. I go to Meyer's Yamaha quite a bit and know the owner (son). I'll have to ask him what the deal is. Considering its based off a motorcycle engine, its hard to believe. Did it have a aftermarket turbo on it????

I purchased a used 08 40th ltx back in 2011 and after the deal was done and sled in truck the guy told that I should take about 3500 kms off the odometer because he blew the motor up at that 3500 kms...He said it was out of warranty by a few months. He contacted Yamaha Canada and with many phone calls to they they gave him a new motor for free. My buddy works at Yamaha and he confirmed that. I had it till 2013/ 18000 kms and it was fast and never a problem. He said that he held it to the bar across a lake for ten minutes before it blew up..

Never heard of such a thing. My 06 GT now has over 17000 miles and runs like it was new. Lots of wide open Quebec miles on this one. Bullet proof except for the Exhaust issues

You can blow them up if you hold it WOT without any snow to cool it and you ignore the temp light. I had a buddy that had an RX1 for sale somebody came and wanted to test drive it so he let them take it out on the lake. The guy held it wide open ignoring the temp light until the motor burnt down.

I still have one of my 06 gt sleds it has over 26000kms on it and never a engine problem ether. My son runs it all the time racing down the lake against his buddies sleds. Bullet proof for sure! When the 08 gt motor went I was told it was valve train that first let go.Never heard of such a thing. My 06 GT now has over 17000 miles and runs like it was new. Lots of wide open Quebec miles on this one. Bullet proof except for the Exhaust issues
