After the letdown of no Apex in a different chassis (not bitching, still hoping in the future) and being set on a newer sled to replace my '06 RTX, I am wondering what leftover or decent used model to consider. Seems to be a lot of praise for the XTX. I definitely planned on a long track, but even the standard shorty is 128 now. Local dealer called yesterday (they knew I was looking) & said they got a '13 Apex SE in with 262 miles. I believe he said for $10k. I told him I was leaning towards an XTX and he said he would even let me take this for a weekend test drive. Not sure if that's a good deal for price/year.
Thoughts on XTX vs others? Also, any years to avoid or better than other years? Would love to get a 2016, but don't think I can justify the extra cost (single shot & 10# less don't make a couple thousand difference to me.) Input?

I know its a little bit of a drive but here's an option for you. 2014's have tuner skis and DuPont slides from the factory as well. Full warranty. Just some food for thought.

Yes, that would be quite a drive. Would have to be a smoking deal & pretty much what I am looking for. I knew about the tuner skis, but didn't realize the Duponts came on the ' 14s as well. If you are looking for a newer Apex w/ the EPS, I would just avoid the '11's as they repositioned the wheels on the '12 on ups to reduce the hyfax wear. As far as price that's not a bad deal for the year, in my opinion, plus it is super low miles.

nothing wrong with the 2011's you will get slider wear with all the newer models and you will have to add marginal wheels & oversize idlers anyways. you can't go wrong with any of the EPS models

I bought the 2013 SE 128 in March 2014, I do mostly trail riding, have done 6,000 miles in the last year, I had to put the DuPont sliders on around a 1,000 miles and had to put carbides on at 4,200 miles went the 6" triple point Bergstrome ski saver kit, both up grades have been awesome. Other then that I have only changed oil. I ride with new 600 & 800 E-tec, couple 800 cats and a 1200 4-tec, only the 600 e-tec beats me at the pumps and only on cold rides, I'm really close to his mileage on a warm fast ride. With the EPS I never have to undo my jacket sippers like the rest of my crew, and non stay with me in the twisty's or on the lakes. Very good sled.

Just got back from the dealer. Man, the sled is mint. No chipped paint even underneath on the suspension. Had a couple extra smaller wheels on it in front. I am assuming for slide wear. Of course, the salesman says I would like this more than an XTX. He also brought up possible pushing in the corners with anything longer than a 128. Will also give a warranty. I just really would like to have the opportunity to try out an XTX as well.

6000 miles in one year? Outstanding! Sounds like you have a great sled. Comfort, handling, & speed. All prerequisites for me.I bought the 2013 SE 128 in March 2014, I do mostly trail riding, have done 6,000 miles in the last year, I had to put the DuPont sliders on around a 1,000 miles and had to put carbides on at 4,200 miles went the 6" triple point Bergstrome ski saver kit, both up grades have been awesome. Love this sled, it makes sledding effortless, I have been experimenting with the primary spring and finally got one that allows me to go through a chainsaw cut- through at 2 to 3 miles per hour lock to lock around stumps and rocks etc as smooth as butter, and back up real smooth as well. Stock engagement tension is 35 I kept going lower and lower so I now run engagement tension at 20,(around 2800 to 3000 rpm) shift out is a little higher then stock which should help my top end as I could never get much over 10,500 to 10,600, hoping to see the sweet spot of 10,800. have a 3 day ride coming up Friday around 450 miles, hoping to check shift out then.

That should be a $9000 sled and he should be able to put a 3-5 year YES warranty on it if he is a dealer. Keeping in mind, the dealer may not be able to extend the warranty from date of your purchase, it may be from the original purchase date since it has miles on it.
I bought my XTX like that last year at this time. 2012 with 200 miles on it. Yamaha allowed the YES contract since it was being sold by an authorized dealer. Don't put any weight on a third party warranty, make sure it is a YES contract.
10K is not a bad deal, but as pointed out, there are too many deals on newer sleds saying that this 13 should be less money. You won't be disappointed with an SE or an XTX. But the salesmans point about an XTX pushing is invalid, and he said it to make a sale. Any sled can push if not setup right.
Good luck! It's a fun time of the season for buyers!!

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm glad to hear opinions on what prices should be. Been out of the market since we picked up the '09 Vector (leftover that year in March. ) So, I really have no idea. The salesman called & left a message at noon today (at work and couldn't answer) and said he needed to talk to me as he had some type of other offer. I assumed it was a line of b.s. Called him back as soon as I got out of work. Said another salesman there sold it. Missing out on the sled didn't bother me, as I'm still trying to figure out xtx or se. I was ticked about how it took place, though. I specifically asked the guy for the bottom line yesterday & the other salesman sold it for $500 less than that. Pretty crappy after buying multiple units from this dealer (3 directly from this salesman) over the years I think. Proceeds to tell me that's why he tried to get hold of me to offer it to me for that price. Then why the heck didn't you just offer it for that price yesterday? Still salty.
