Last year bought a Phazer and loved it for banging around tree rows and short ditches.

Previously had a SX700R for several thousand miles.

Now have opportunity to pick up a "07" Apex RTX locally with 1200 miles for sixty four hundred bucks. That price seems very appealing to me. I am just wondering what the ride is going to be like. Does the steering feel heavy in the ditches or how easy is it to throw around?

Just looking at any input good or bad as I have first dibs on the sled tonight! Dont want to pick up the wrong sled for me if I should be looking at the Nytro or something. Unfortunately I have had not rode on either model but, dont want to miss out if it would suit me! Thanks in advance!

Based on this statement, the Apex may not be the best machine for you. The weight is noticable off trail but for trail riding it's perfect.

Think of your Phazer as a Jeep and an Apex as a Corvette.

Wow! Great analogy.

The Apex is a great groomed trail sled, but it ain't no ditch pickle. If you're looking to upgrade for ditch riding, you'd be happier with a Nytro, I suspect

Forget about that RTX..............you're going to miss out on it to a Canadian!! LOL!

GE ;)!

LOL! Good One!!

Thats what I thought as of Yesterday! He called me this morning and said it was the first one there with the money after he gets home for work! I guess hes been waiting over a week for the buyers from the north to get the proper paperwork.

I am keeping the Phazer also for the wife and myself for when the need calls.

We do have some trails around here but alot of them use the ditches. So when a person condsiders the Apex for a trail sled, is that only the well groomed wide sweeping trails or all trails, even if they are pretty beat up?

Thanks for the replys ahead of time. I should really leave for work now. Shouldnt matter that I am going to be and hour late just cause Im gooding off trying to figure out about buying a sled should it!? lol

I put about 50 miles yesterday on groomed ditches with my Apex GT. It did very well. But, the Apex GT is a groomed trail sled, and it's exceptional at that. The RTX is a rough groomed trail sled for aggressive riders, but IMHO it will beat you up more than a Nytro will on those same trails.

APEX RTX can be made into a great rough trail sled, with some adjustments here and there. I have anti-bottomers on my RTX and love the suspension in the rough stuff now. Sure its a lil heavy off trail, but that Genesis 150 motor will take your mind off that ; )

my 2 cents

I've spent a lot of time on a 07 phazer gt that my brother in law owns. I have an 07 rtx. The phazer's motor feels like a quad on snow compared to my apex. Though it keeps up fine in the woods. Just no comparison with throttle response and pull. The phazer is easier to stand up on while riding, where the apex feels more old school sit down ride compared to it. You feel as if your sitting on the skis compared to the apex, wich feels long in front. For handling, the phazer turns on a dime where you get a little more pushing in corners with the apex. The ride is somewhat similar on both, as they bottom way too easy in the rear. You can really feel the weight difference in some situations, like really tight switchback trails. I think the biggest things you will notice right off the bat would be steering differences and seating position.I would compare the phazer more in line with a ski-doo rev (not new xp), as you sit more over the skis like i stated before. Personaly the phazer is way too underpowered for me, so if your looking for a big power increase i recomend the apex , if you really like the handling of the phazer i would lean toward the nytro. If you do go with the apex be prepared to deal with ski (darting ) issues, that dont seem as bad on stock ski phazers. good luck.

If you can ride it first, only you can judge if you'll like it. I ride my Apex GT in the ditches, and I ride very hard. It will impress you so much with it's torque, that you wouldn't notice the weight. There are alot fo things you can do to make it work for whatever you want, just be prepared to take the time, and spend the money to tailor it to you. You won't be disappointed, though!

Skis, Skis, Skis!!!!! I cannot stress the difference in how a sled handles with the Powderhound skis compared to the stock skis. It does not even feel like the same machine. It feels lighter and quicker on the trails. You don't feel like you are out of control on twisty trails. Everybody kept telling me that I should ditch the stock skis. I am glad I listened to them.

I would not even think about going back to stock skis after riding a few miles on the new skis.

I concur on the skis.

With stock skis I get a severe workout riding my 07 RTX in ditches. The only way to climb out of a ditch is to throw everything you have into leaning the sled over and most of the time the sled's weight wins out and I end up at the bottom of the ditch, instead of climbing out.

I also have C&A Outlaw skis. These things have an absolutely enormous keel on them (something like 2 inches). With the Outlaws on, even though I still can't always get the sled to lean over as much as I'd like, I can steer anywhere and at any time. This means I can simply steer my way up and out of the ditch or I can steer sharply in the wrong direction combined with leaning and get the sled to lean the way I want it to. For ditch banging skis do make a huge difference.

Still for playing in ditches, the 07 RTX really isn't that good. My buddies REV-XP 800R MXZ X-package in stock form will walk circles around the RTX when it comes to ditch banging, and it doesn't matter who is driving it.

I suspect the FX Nytro would be more comparable to the Phazer for ease of throwing it around.

The RTX is a very durable and excellent all around machine (after several adjustments), but it is more suited to aggressive trail riding, rather than ditches.
