I have a 06 gt with air box mod, timing adv. 2spd clutch. It has the rear heat exchanger on it. Today the temp. was 30f not too hard packed and after running pretty hard on the railroad beds, the yellow warning light came on and pretty much stayed on all day.Slowing down didn't help, seems once it comes on it will stay.It looked like it was getting enough kick up, i have 144 studs. This started late last year on granular snow. Is there any remedies like a larger rear exchanger like on the 2011 or is there a thermo stat that can be changed to a colder one. I have a screened vent under the frt. bumper with a metal sheet contoured up into the bottom of the air box to get more air to intake and in hopes of running cooler around engine, but light still came on. Any ideas? Also with light on does it go into reduce power mode? Thanks, this is really starting to bug me. :o|

Are you positive it was indicating temperature. You should have the yellow yield light illuminate and the temp. symbol on the digital screen come on to. Is that what you have?

if the light stayed on your hot all the while...try removing the thermostate if your conditions dont get better...i usually just pull off into deeper snow and light goes out very quickly...like under a minute or 2.

Check the simple things first. Make sure coolant is a 50/50 mix, the coolant level is adequate & that it does circulate. Feel the rear & floorboard heat exchangers, make sure they get warm. Confirm the radiator fan works. I rode very briefly today. The trail was ice w/a very fluffy dusting. There was not an adequate amount of snow for good cooling, your problem is likely due to the lack of snow.

How do you determine a 50/50 mix? The yellow light stayed on with the temp symbol.Everything is full, when i put my hand on the thermo housing after using it, couldn't keep hand on it at all. Didn't check the rear exch. or running boards.

Like so cat said if temp symbol is on fan should be energized. My t-stat housing is very hot with normal running temp. so that is not a perfect way to tell. Try driving with your shroud off to get good amount of air to radiator. If fan is dead. If you are not sure about mix drain it and throw a 50/50 mix in.

I have a long track,so I have rear heat exchanger. I have road in conditions you described with people with the 121"'s,and they have had no problems. yes there is a rear heat exchanger you can install on your sled, but I would guess there is something wrong and you should figure it out before modifying sled anymore.

I'd try removing the thermostat for a test ride. You can get a coolant tester at and auto parts store. Make sure you are running 50/50 and add some Redline water wetter.

I have read that Yamaha sent out sleds with 100% anti-freeze, no water?
Was this something in the past or do they still do it?

Just curious if my 08 should be checked and changed or was it earlier model sleds that had this problem?

Sorry to hijack.

The fan is running when the light is on, i'll check the antifreeze cond.& run the sledand feel the sides and rear exchanger. The thing seems very tempermental to snow conditions i don't think it should be that much. This was depressing, my nephew has a 03 zl 800, we took off side by side, it took me to 80 before i could pull away. the light was on at time, but i got extras done to the sled i thought it shouldn't of been close. he hooks up good though.

Thats why I have been hesitant on any aftermarket parts, its been tough cause I'd like to do a few things, but the more and more threads I read sleds loaded with doo dads are running slower speeds than my stocker does!!!!!!!!!!!! I might just wait and save and throw a charger on,that seems to be the best way to get results.

These sleds need lots of snow to cool. Hardpack, plowed logging roads, icy lakes don't provide enough snow. That big chunk of aluminum under the hood needs lots of cooling.
Sounds like your best bet is to bleed the coolant system & top-off w/50-50.
And most of all, WE NEED SNOW!

Our 08 APex had nearly 100 % antifreeze in it and did the same thing. I boubht a suction gun and got most of it out and drained in a a clear bottle and you could not even see through the stuff. I mixed it with distilled water and filled it back up, tested with tester and was good to go, also did the rear heat exchanger as there wasn't one on it but sounds like you do have one currently, should be good unless its electrical like some have mentioned chekcing therm.
