Just wondering how many lbs of boost the stock apex ignition can handle before it starts blowing spark? I'm thinking low 20's let me know what you guys have found. Thanks

I don't know for sure but i know of a couple at 20# with stock ignition but i think much more and you would start blowing out candle's. kviper

I am blowing out at 18 psi... starts to miss with 0.020 gap and c16.

Apex turbo stock coils and rb3

Maybe that's my problem, I'll know for sure as soon as I get some seat time.

How will I know it's happening? Will it start cutting at full boost at a certain rpms or?

Problem went away on mine with a fresh battery AND no more accessory connected to ecu voltage.

now can go over 20 psi no problem

I rewired all my accessories and stuff to draw power directly from the battery thru a 30A fuse and thru 2 30A relays, now I only use ignition power as a trigger for the relays.

I'll know this week how it works out. Hope to do the test rides soon. Hope to be past 20 lbs asap.

you will

Ran 20 psi today and the a/f at 11.5 at WOT. What a ride on 660 ft .Need to drop mains some more .

Hi Blue shadow, what mains are you running?
One # lower on the mains should be pretty close or maybe two #s down?

BTW - I have my plug gaps set at 0.5 millimeter or 0.019" running stock spark plugs, C9ER[/img]

I struggled on the dyno today with this exact problem, think it was the spark getting blown out or plugs started fouling, something because it wasn't taking the available air and fuel it was flowing and making the power with it that it should have. It wasn't audibly misfiring, just seems not to be lighting the mixture??? Did this on premium pump gas and same on Sunoco 116, so it wasn't fuel quality related.
I was trying CR9EK's at 0.022" and I'm taking them out and throwing them as far as I can!!! The second sled we tested, same exact build, same fuel, same everything but used the stock Apex plugs CR9EB's at 0.018" gap, made way more power. Mine was almost down 50-60 HP at 12 lbs boost on up to 25+ lbs boost compared to that one.
Anyhow, I am totally frustrated and disappointed to say the least... The very first stop on the way back from the dyno was to pick up a set of stock plugs!
Maybe it's the gap that makes the difference???

I started today with 165 mains ,1 3/4 turns on the pilot screws ,17.5 pilots ,needles in the stock position .Idle at 12.8 ,engaugement at 42oo rpm at 13.5 a/f ,and wot at 10.5 a/f .She pull good but just to rich .I change the mains to 153 .8 ,wot 11.5 a/f this time she pull way harder on the top end .It was like a different sled .She has a little burble at take off for the first 15 ft and then she comes alive.Running 20 psi with meth and 112 race fuel.Stock spark plug gap and she don t mist a beat .I came home were it was getting late .I just put in 147.5 mains to get the a/f at 12.5 .What do you think about the 147.5 mains ,should get me close .
